2451 Horace was s/o Simeon & Matilda (Tiffany) Mallory.

According to marriage records, his first wife was Sarah Farnan, md. 29 May 1855, and his second wife was Esther L. Bixby, md. 2 May 1866.

In the Federal Census of 1880, Horace and Ellen E. Mallory are living at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. Nettie E. Sanderson is age 13, "stepdaughter."

I haven't yet found a marriage record for him and Ellen/Eliza.

In the Federal Census of 1900, Horace is "uncle" living w/Albert N. Johnson and family in West Springfield.
Mallory, Horace Lyman (I26306)

2452 Hosea was of Northfield, VT (see Boyd Scott Remington's ancestry chart).

The 1850 Federal Census lists a Hosea Remington, age 44, living at Elmira, Chemung Co., NY, as a laborer, birthplace unknown. He seems to be one of several individuals boarding with the Bentley family. Could this posibly be the son of Joseph & Caty?
Remington, Hosea (I07989)

2453 HOWLAND Sarah, Duxbury, to Robert Dennis, Portsmouth, Nov. 19, 1672 (recorded at RI Monthly Meeting of Friends, Portsmouth).

Robert & Sarah were married "att the house of Joshua Coggeshall of Portsmouth before the people of God." (source: Descendants of Robert Dennis of Portsmouth, RI by Otis M. Humphrey, NE Historic and Genealogical Register Vol 49 p 441)
Family F08486

2454 Hugh Bailey was made a freeman of the Colony at Newport 2 May 1702. He came to East Greenwich from Newport sometime between 1696 and 1702. It has been reported that all of his children were by his first wife, Anna. His second wife was named Abigail Williams. However, the town records in East Greenwich suggest that he may have had a second wife named Ann, because while the birth entry for William says "eldest son of Hugh and Anna," the entry for Samuel says "eldest son of Hugh and Ann." The seven-year gap between the first two sons may allow for this possibility, also. Information on his family can be found in "The History of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, 1677-1960, With Related Genealogy" by Martha R. McPartland, p. 264; and in "Records of the Bailey Family" by Hannah C. (Bailey) Hopkins. BAILEY, Hugh (I00774)

2457 Hugh the son of Hugh Cole & Deborah his wife was borne may 30th 1683 Cole, Hugh (I26694)

2458 Hugh was "of Swanzey."

Swansea, MA, was a Plymouth Colony town founded by Baptists in 1667.

Cole, Hugh (I26713)

2459 Huldah is very possibly the daughter of Benedict Remington b.c.1755 (see elsewhere on this family tree). Remington, Huldah (I08410)

2460 Huldah may have been the widow of a Mr. Rouse when she married David Remington. Legal documents after her death mention a son named Joseph Rouse. Unknown, Huldah (I05770)

2461 Huldah was "of Daniel, of Scriba, NY." In the 1850 Federal Census, she is living at Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY, with her four youngest children. In the 1880 Federal Census, she is age 77, apparently living alone in Lorrraine (District 130), Jefferson Co., NY. Several other Remington families are nearby. According to the census data, she was born in NY but both of her parents were born in RI.

In the 1860 census, Huldah is age 59. With her is daughter Phebe Hitchcock and her family.

In 1880 she is still at Lorraine, NY. She is age 77 and living near by other Remingtons.
Hall, Hulda (I09644)

2462 Huldah's maiden name came to me from a Remington genealogy by Valorie Sherman. It is sometimes spelled Croff. (see Google books, The Craft Family)

This genealogy has her dob as 17 Sep 1828. However, this means she would have been married at age 14 or 15, and does not agree with her age given in the census. In any case, it is possible.

The Craft Family has her dob as 27 Sep 1823.
Croft, Hulda (I13243)

2463 Humility was the widow of Silas Greene, first cousin of James, when she married James as her second husband. Greene, Humility (I09252)

2464 I am not sure who Freelove married, only that she is referred to as Freelove Allen, widow, daughter of Ephraim Smith. She may have later married James Langworthy, who was also her lawyer. The SK Town Council meeting records imply this but the wording is unclear. Smith, Freelove (I20335)

2465 I am adding Peleg to this family group based on an entry in "The Rhode Island 1777 Military Census" transcribed by Mildred M. Chamberlain, p. 120 (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1985). It says he is a son of Daniel, age 16 - 50 A, and a prisoner. Why was he a prisoner? This needs more research.

If he were a son of Daniel Jr., I think it would specify that, since both Daniel (60+) and Daniel Jr. (16 - 50 U) are listed also. I have no record of any marriage for Daniel Jr., so possibly he was physically or mentally hadicapped and never married (?).

Is he the same Peleg Remington, of Warwick, RI, who served in Capt Wall's Company in 1757 during the French & Indian War? Possibly.

There are two Peleg Remingtons listed for Warwick in the 1774 RI Census.

One Peleg Remington of Warwick had a wife named Nansey in 1750. Could it be this Peleg? I am not sure. For the present I have placed Nancy as the wife of another Peleg probably around the same age.
Remington, Peleg (I11489)

2466 I am assuming Almie's maiden name was Chapman, because in 1880 the family has a sister-in-law Lizzie Chapman, 14, living with them at Providence, RI. Almie's name is given as Alma in one of her children's birth records. Chapman, Almira "Almie" Hibbard (I10355)

2467 I am assuming he is the Willie Wells age 5 in the 1880 census with his grandparents at Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY.

In 1900 William Remington is age 26 and married. His grandmother Amanda Remington is living with his family at Boylston, Oswego Co., NY. I have made an assumption that his mother is Eva.

I am also assuming that Willie Wells and William Remington are the same individual. As far as I know, Orsemus & Amanda had only one daughter. It could be that Willie was born to Eva before she was married, or that she was married only briefly.

In the Federal Census of 1930, William J. & Mary A. Remington, ages 55 & 52, are living at Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY. With them are Samuel E. 25 and Eva D. 22. Living nearby are Harold and George and their families.
Remington, William "Willie" J. (I19357)

2468 I am assuming that Frances and Fannie are one and the same individual. According to the 1850 census, Frances Smith was born c. 1803 in RI. However, this could be off a couple of years. Remington, Frances "Fannie" (I11610)

2469 I am assuming that Sarah married a Mr. Potter after Elisha died, because she is called Sarah Potter in her father's will. Harrington, Sarah (I12280)

2470 I am assuming that she is the bride in the East Greenwich marriage entry for Caleb Briggs, of Richard, and Elizabeth Tarbox, of John. Tarbox, Elizabeth (I07247)

2471 I am assuming that the gravestone for Henry Remington, s/o Thomas & Almira, is for the same individual as Henry Clay Remington, their son.

In the Federal Census of 1860, Henry & Hannah Remington, ages 28 & 24, are living at Warwick, RI. They have three children: Abby 5, George 2, & Infant 8/12.
Remington, Henry Clay (I09118)

2472 I am assuming that the Stephen in the DAR Patriot Index, married to Sarah Barbow, is this same Stephen. He is the only one I have found thus far for this time and place.

BSRs chart says he was born 3 Jan.
Remington, Stephen I (I05668)

2473 I am assuming this death record at Abington is for this particular Thomas, s/o Thomas, who died at age 76. Remington, Thomas Jr. (I07890)

2474 I am assuming this marriage in Arnold's "Vital Record of Rhode Island" applies to this Levi, because he is identified as "Levi, of Nicholas." They were married by Samuel Wall, Justice. The Rhode Island Cemetery Database confirms these birth dates, and that they are both buried in West Greenwich Historical Cemetery #21. Family F00700

2475 I am guessing she is daughter of Joseph and Susanna Edmunds -- pieced together from census records and burial information.

I am making an assumption that Mary is sister of Sylvia Edmunds who married Philander Remington. I conjecture they may be daughters of Joseph and Susanna Edmunds. I am going to make an educated guess that they are in this family group, based on census data from 1840 showing a free white female age 15-19 and and other age 20-29. The youngest girl age 10-14 would be Martha, with them in 1850.

See data below about other family members.

In the DETROIT SOCIETY FOR GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH MAGAZINE (date unknown), on p. 88 the following appears: "PRIVATE CEMETERY ON JOSEPH REMINGTON FARM, east and north of Sennett, in Brutus township, Cayuga County, New York.
EDMUNDS, Joseph d. Feb. 6, 1859; ae. 78 yrs, 10 mos, 14 d;
Susanna, wife of Joseph Edmunds, d. Apr. 11, 1867, ae 84 yrs 4 mos 22 d (dau. of Ezra and Esther (Avery) Chapman of Great Barrington and Windsor, Mass.);
William C., d. Aug. 25, 1852, ae, 24 yrs 10 mos 5 d;
Cyrus, son of Joseph & Susanna, d Oct 2, 1828, ae 18 yrs 2 mos 25 d;
Elvira, dau. of Joseph & Susanna, d Dec. 21, 1822, ae. 19 yrs 8 mos 21 d;
Joseph, son of Joseph & Susanna, d. July 18, 1822, ae. 2 yrs 3 mos 11 d
(copied October 1936 by Clarence L. Beavis)."

See notes for Sylvia Edmunds, wife of Philander; they had a son Joseph.
Edmunds, Mary (I28204)

2476 I am guessing that Katharine died in childbirth or soon afterwards, and that the recorded married of Josiah to Sarah Sprague is a second marriage for him.

This may be her birth record (needs more research to confirm): "Katharine daughter of Robert and Katharine Lord, Born 14 April 1739" (source: Boston Births 1700 - 1800, newenglandancestors.org)

If so, these are her parents: "Robert Lord & Katharine Haley Int. reads [Haly] Married By The Rev. John Webb on Aug. 17, 1738" (source: Marriages in Boston 1700 - 1809, newenglandancestors.org)
Lord, Katharine (I23624)

2477 I am including Allen as a son here because in the 1820 Federal Census at Marcellus,Onondaga Co.,NY, the following Wightmans are listed: Allen & Arannah. It appears that Allen is age 26 - 45 yrs, and Arannah is 45+.

Since another Allen Wightman was born in 1805 (from gravestone info), they cannot be the same individual.
Wightman, Allen (I23426)

2478 I am including Arnold as a son in this family because or information in a DAR file. I have not found any further evidence to confirm. Potter, Arnold (I26808)

2479 I am including Stephen as a son in this family group solely on the basis of the Revolutionary Pension File of Tiddeman Remington. A letter in this file states that Tiddeman served three months of his enlistment time on behalf of his uncle Stephen Remington. However, I can not see exactly where Tiddeman states that Stephen was his uncle, but the letter, written later, says this. Something may be missing from the published file.

Could he be the Stephen Remington who was an Ensign at Jamestown and married Sarah Nichols? (see note at Newport Historical Society)
Remington, Stephen (I16652)

2480 I am making an assumption about Clara Remington, age 24 in the 1870 Federal Census, living with Eliza D. Remington and the family of Francis J. Remington. I am listing her as a sister of Francis. Remington, Clara (I15279)

2481 I am making an assumption here, that Samuel belongs to this couple. He had a son named Asa, whom he possibly named after his father. However, he is not listed in the Gov. John Cranston genealogy.

I also am assuming that he is the Samuel T. Bates in the RI Cemetery Database (middle initial similar), with dates c.1801-11 Aug 1838. His wife Roby may have remarried after he died, as I can't find her grave listed in the database.
Bates, Samuel P. (I02973)

2482 I am making an assumption that "Elizabeth Arnold, d/o Elisha" found in the Warwick marriage records, belongs in this family group. Elizabeth married her first cousin, Josiah, son of her uncle Israel. Arnold, Elizabeth (I12377)

2483 I am making an assumption that "Luke" (Lake?) belongs in this family group, because he is living with Jenks & Phebe in the 1860 census.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Lake Remington is age 42 and living at Easton, Washington Co., NY. His wife Margaret is aged 38, and his mother Phebe Ann, who lives with them is 80. They are nearby his brother George and family.
Remington, Lake (I13367)

2484 I am making an assumption that "Nicholas Whitford, of Levi" as shown in the marriage record belongs in this family group. The gravestones of Nicholas & Martha are with the other family members. Whitford, Captain Nicholas (I01952)

2485 I am making an assumption that "Tripheny Peckham" age 89 in the 1850 census, living with Benjamin & Mary (Peckham) Remington at Newport, is Mary's mother.

According to a family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, she is Tryphena Stockman, b 9 Sep 1763, d 16 Feb 1851, md 19 Nov 1786, d/o Jacob Stockman & Ann Wilbur (ref. Everett Cook). This information on her maiden name and parentage (not the dates) has since been confirmed by a Remington Family manuscript at the Newport Historical Society (Frederick C. King Papers) which reference the Peckham Genealogy by Stephen Farnum Peckham.
Stockman, Tripheney (I11122)

2486 I am making an assumption that Alice Thomas is the mother of Thomas Tillinghast, son of Phillip Tillinghast. Benjamin is the son of Phillip & Alice (Thomas) Tillinghast. Therefore, I am placing these two sons in the same family group. Thomas, Alice (I26101)

2487 I am making an assumption that Andrew, listed as age 20 on the 1860 Tiverton Census, is Charles Andrew.

Raised on his family's farm in Tiverton, RI, Charles A. Hambly was the seventh of nine children born to Charles Hambly and his wife Mary Slocum. From the age of 16 Charles was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Tiverton, where he went on to teach Sunday School for 40 years, and was also a deacon and Sunday School superintendant for a number of years. After his own early education, he taught school in Westport, MA, and Tiverton, RI. Later he raised poultry and went into the meat business, especially pork and lamb. He owned a 125-acre farm in northern Tiverton, called Spring Hill Farm, where his residence overlooked Narragansett Bay and the towns of Portsmouth, Bristol, and Little Compton.

There is a biographical sketch of Charles in a book titled "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island," published in 1908 by J. H Beers & Co., Chicago, p. 1188. There are also nice pictures of Charles and his wife Mary.
Hambly, Charles Andrew (I00997)

2488 I am making an assumption that Benjamin, son of Daniel (mentioned in his will), is the same individual who married Susannah Spencer. I have not been able to find another Benjamin in this time period. (needs more research)

I have estimated the birth years for the children of Thomas & Abigail.
Briggs, Capt. Benjamin (I07511)

2489 I am making an assumption that C. W. Remington belongs in this family group, because he and his family are living next door to Amos & family in the 1880 Federal Census. He could be a son of Joseph, also nearby, but more likely of Amos.

Jane Hardin's genealogy has him as a son of Amos, but has his middle name as Wilcox.
Remington, Charles Wesley (I10124)

2490 I am making an assumption that Caleb belongs in this family group. I need to verify this. Bailey, Caleb (I04245)

2491 I am making an assumption that Charles H. Remington (b.c.1873 in the 1880 Federal Census at Brooklyn, New York City) is the same individual as Charles Howard Remington (b.Dec 1872) in the RI Cemetery Database. This is a reasonable assumption since his mother's maiden name (in the census) is Howard, and his father James (in the census) was from RI.

In the Federal Census of 1900, Charles H. Remington is age 27, living at Brooklyn, NY, with Charles & Mary Howard. He is their nephew. Also in the household are Pearl Remington (Charles's wife) 25 & Charlotte Remington 24 (Charles's sister). Charles is a produce merchant.

The death record at the RI State Archives identifies his parents as James H. & Ellen. The date of death given by the RI Cemetery Database is 17 Mar 1931.
Remington, Charles Howard (I10341)

2492 I am making an assumption that data for L. N. Remington & wife Sarah in the 1880 Federal Census belongs to Luzerne and his wife. Remington, Luzerne Noble (I10114)

2493 I am making an assumption that Dewitt age 10 is a son of Noel & Nancy, because he is living with them in the 1860 census. However, they are living next door to Hiram & Nancy, so he might belong to them. In the 1870 Federal Census, DeWitt 20 and his 16-year-old wife, Ella, are next door to Thomas & Ladorsa Remington. Thomas may be his first cousin. Remington, Dewitt (I11623)

2494 I am making an assumption that Edward, living with this family in the 1850 Federal Census, is a son of Philip & Abby. Manchester, Edward (I12242)

2495 I am making an assumption that Emory B. Remington belongs in this family group, because his date of birth fits, and his middle initial may indicate his mother's maiden name, and he is living in the same town as an adult.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Emory B. & Charlotte Remington are living at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., NY, with their son Mortimer.
Remington, Emory Brace (I12849)

2496 I am making an assumption that Esther B. Remington, age 46, living with Peleg & Delanie in the 1870 Federal Census at Providence, is their daughter. (needs more research) Remington, Esther B. (I13669)

2497 I am making an assumption that George belongs in this family group. He and his wife Mary are living next door to Gardner, 90, and Jenks, 60, and other family members in the 1860 Federal Census at Easton, Washington Co., NY. In 1880 George & Mary are still at Easton, living near Lake & Margaret. His mother Phebe Ann, aged 80, is living with Lake. Remington, George E. (I13368)

2498 I am making an assumption that Hattie Sheffield is a daughter of Oscar & Adeline, based on her year and location of birth as listed in the 1880 Federal Census, as well as her parents' places of birth. In the census she is living as a servant in the household of Frank & Hattie Palmer, Spring Prairie, Walworth Co., WI. Sheffield, Harriet "Hattie" Julia (I11653)

2499 I am making an assumption that he is the John Hubbard who married Priscilla Bosworth; they were married at St. Michael's, which was the family's church. This couple had the births of two children recorded at Bristol, RI: Nathaniel 9 July 1748 and Eliza 22 June 1750. Hubbard, John (I28661)

2500 I am making an assumption that he is the Lyman Remington who married Elvira and had daughter Rhoda Elvira, b 11 Nov 1845 at Granville, MA. This seems likely, since his family was in that geographical area.

According to the marriage records, Lyman was of Hartland, CT.

In a land deed, Lyman identifies his mother as Rhoda Remington, so I am assuming he belongs to this particular Rhoda.

According to his death records at Granville, MA, Lyman died at age 31 of consumption (tuberculosis). He died three days after his daughter was born. Sadly, she died a couple of months later; her death record is on the same page as his. Lyman's death record does not name his wife or parents.
Remington, Lyman (I18595)
