| I have made an assumption that Andrew was born in Whiteside Co., IL, because that is where his parents were living in the 1850 census. In the Federal Census of 1860, Andrew J. Remington, age 10 IL, is living with his uncle N.C. & Mary Remington, and six cousins, in North East Township, Erie Co., PA. In the Federal Census of 1880, Andrew & Ida Remington, ages 30 & 23, are living at Springfield, Erie Co., PA. In the Federal Census of 1900, Andrew & Ida E. Remington are living at Fairfax, Osage Co., KS. They have two children: Noble C. 14, & Nettie R. 3. In 1910 the family is still at Fairfax. According to the census data, they were married about 1876/77, and have had 4 children, two of whom are still living. | Remington, Andrew Jackson (I21468)
| I have made an assumption that Anthony belongs in this family group. Three of his siblings are found living with various relatives in 1880, as he is (age 6 living with his Aunt Jane Aappenheimer). I think both of his parents must have died in the 1870s, although I have not found a date of death for his mother. In 1910 and 1920 he is listed in the census as Andrew Remington; in 1930 he is Anthony. The family is living at Toulon, Stark Co., IL. His death record gives his occupation as a horse racer. | Remington, Anthony R. (I28311)
| I have made an assumption that Azariah is the son of Joel & Armina, because he has a son named Joel, and also because he is living in the same town as Joel in 1870 & 1880. Also, in 1870, Homer E. Remington, age 18, is living with Azariah and family; and in 1860 Homer is with Joel & Armina. Therefore, it is a reasonable assumption (needs research to confirm). In 1860, A. B. Remington is age 24, a clerk, living with the family of Ira Sayles at Richmond, Chittenden Co., VT. In 1870, A. B. Remington is age 34, married to Martha M., age 27, and living at Waterbury, Washington Co., VT. They have a son Joel D., 11 months. Also in the household is Homer E. Remington, age 18, probably brother of Azariah. In 1880 Azariah B. Remington is 44 and his wife Martha M. Remington is 38; their son Joel D. Remington is 11. They are still at Waterbury. Azariah's (assumed) father Joel and family are living at Waterbury in 1850, 1860, 1870, & 1880. | Remington, Azariah B. (I18245)
| I have made an assumption that Betsey, Maplet's sister, is the Elizabeth Remington b. c1783, "daughter of Jonathan," who married Thomas Remington b. c1780, son of Benjamin & Phebe (Manchester) Remington. They were first cousins. In 1860 Elizabeth Remington, age 77, is living at Warwick, RI, next to Ferdinand & Abby Remington. In 1870 she is age 86 and still at Warwick (Apponaug Post Office); she is living with Levi & Elizabeth Baker. Apparently she died not long after this census was taken. The death record says "daughter of Jonathan," b. c1783. The RI Cemetery Database says c1784. Maplet's sister was born in December 1785, so assuming that the date of death is correct, and that the date of birth is correct in the family Bible, Elizabeth would have died just short of 85 years old. (There was another Jonathan Remington born in Scituate in 1743, but I have not yet discovered data on any family he may have had, such as a daughter named Elizabeth/Betsey.) Additional evidence is found in the will of Thomas's brother, Jonathan d. 1866, who mentions Betsey Remington, widow of Thomas Remington, deceased. This probably would have been Elizabeth, his sister-in-law; her husband had died in 1853. So Betsey was her nickname. Betsey is also the name written in the family Bible as one of Maplet's sisters. Elizabeth's birthplace as MA came from the papers of Mary E. Rice late of East Greenwich, RI, now deceased. This agrees with the data in the 1860 & 1870 Federal Censuses, which both have Massachusetts as Elizabeth's birthplace, and thus are additional support for her being Maplet's sister. | Remington, Elizabeth "Betsey" (I02404)
| I have made an assumption that Caleb was born in West Greenwich. | Whitford, Caleb (I04767)
| I have made an assumption that Caleb was born in West Greenwich. | Greene, Rev. Caleb (I01864)
| I have made an assumption that Caroline is the mother of all these children, as she is the wife listed in the 1860 & 1870 Federal Census (needs more research). | Tyrell, Caroline C. (I12924)
| I have made an assumption that Catherine's maiden name is Stoker because in the 1930 census a sister-in-law is living with the family, Mary Muriel Stoker. | Stoker, Catherine (I23063)
| I have made an assumption that Celia is a daughter is this family because in the 1850 census she is age 17, living with Keziah and her son Asaph. | Remington, Celia (I16019)
| I have made an assumption that Charles Remington 33 NY in the Federal Census of 1910 is the same individual as Charlie Remington born c 1878. (This needs more research to confirm.) In 1910 Charles is married to Zoe and living at Red House, Cattaraugus Co., NY. In the household are their two children and father-in-law Addison Norman, 51, widower. In the Federal Census of 1930, the family is living on Creek Rd. at Pike, Wyoming Co., NY: Charles J. Remington 52, Zoia Remington 42, and children as follows -- Newell 19, Robert 15, Albertus 12, Lillian 11, and Lucile 8. | Remington, Charles J. "Charlie" (I22779)
| I have made an assumption that Clarrissa Remington, age 24, in the 1850 Federal Census, is the same individual as Clara Remington, age 54, in the 1880 Federal Census. In 1880, Clara and her son Lyman are living at Chicago, Cook Co., IL. In 1900 she is living with Lyman, now married to Minnie, still in Chicago. According to the census data, her parents were born in WI/IL. | Gardiner, Clarissa (I08550)
| I have made an assumption that Elisha was born in West Greenwich. | Whitford, Elisha (I04412)
| I have made an assumption that Ellen's maiden name is Donahue, because in the 1880 census there is a brother-in-law Thomas Donahue living with the Peden family. | Donahue, Ellen (I28424)
| I have made an assumption that Emma was Norman's first wife, as her name is given as mother in Seneca's death record at Boston, MA. | Unknown, Emma E. (I24738)
| I have made an assumption that Enoch & Catheen died before the 1850 census, because I have not been able to locate them in the census index. In 1830 there is an Enock Remington in Vermilion, IL. That may be this Enoch. | Remington, Enock (I11213)
| I have made an assumption that Freelove was a daughter of Penelope, simply because Freelove named a daughter Penelope Remington. | Albro, Freelove Gardner (I20396)
| I have made an assumption that Freelove, d/o Edward & Mary Manchester, belongs in this family group (needs more research to confirm). | Manchester, Freelove (I18621)
| I have made an assumption that George Remington b MA in 1870, 1880, & 1900 living at Great Barrington, Berkshire Co., MA, is this particular George Remington. In the 1900 census, his parents' birthplaces are given as MA/NY. The spouses and children in this family group have come from the census data, using this assumption. | Remington, George F. (I11658)
| I have made an assumption that Gilbert Slack, age 35 in the 1891 census, is the son of Robert & Eliza. Gilbert & Ann are living at Cossall, Nottinghamshire. It appears that they have no children. In 1901 they are at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. With them is a son, James R., age 21, a groom, born Leicester. Perhaps he was adopted (?). The only James R. Slack I have found in the 1891 census is th right age, but was born in Lancashire and is living in Lancashire, a son of James Slack. | Slack, Gilbert (I16866)
| I have made an assumption that he is be the Henry Remington in the 1850 and 1860 Federal Censuses at Champion, Jefferson Co., NY. In 1850 he is age 18 NY, a laborer, living with the family of Henry Gear. In 1860 probably the same Henry Remington is still living at Champion, age 31 NY, with a wife named Sylvia C. age 22 NY. They are living with Silas & Sarah Ann Chapin, parents of Sylvia. There were several Henry Remingtons in New York State, so it is uncertain which one this is at Champion. However, notes on Jonathan A. Bowhall refer to an uncle Henry Remington of Denmark; this above-mentioned couple were married in Copenhagen. | Remington, Henry (I24013)
| I have made an assumption that Henry Ellsbree, age 48 in the 1850 Federal Census, belongs in this family group. His profession is a stone cutter, the same as Benjamin's. Also, the names of his children, particularly Rhoda B., suggest that he belongs to this family. In 1850 Henry is married to Mary H., age 43. They have seven children in the household: Mary H. 22, Alvada T. 17, Rhoda B. 15, Henrietta M. 10, Amanda J. C. 8, Henry H. 5, & Susan A. C. 2, all b MA. I am assuming these are all children of Henry & Mary. In 1860 the family is still at Fall River: Henry 58, Mary H. 53, Alzada T. 27, Rhoda B. 25, Henrietta M. 20, Amanda J. C. 18, Henry H. 15, & Susan A. C. 12. In 1870 Henry & Mary H. are 68 & 64. With them are Alzada T. 36 & Henry H. 25. In 1880 the family is still at Fall River, and consists of Henry 78, Mary H. 73, Alzadie T. 47, & Henry H 35. Next door is daughter Rhoda B. Bliffins, 45, and her children: Marietta, Edmond, Charles, & Susan. | Elsbree, Henry (I18695)
| I have made an assumption that her maiden name was Ferell, because in 1880, Sarah Ferell, mother-in-law, is living with the Remington family. | Ferell, Rebecca Jane (I14260)
| I have made an assumption that his middle initial stands for Watson. | Remington, Samuel Watson (I11130)
| I have made an assumption that Jane White (b.c.1842, VT) in the 1870 Federal Census is Jane Remington (b.c.1842, VT) in the 1850 Federal Census (needs research to confirm). | Remington, Mary Jane (I13280)
| I have made an assumption that John's second wife, named Mary, was Mary Almy; this assumption is based on the marriage record of John Greene of Warwick and Mary Almy of Newport. This took place in either 1737 or 1739. I have also made an assumption that she was the daughter of William. ALMY Mary and John Greene, of Warwick, Dec. 8, 1737. GREENE John, of Warwick, and Mary Almy, of Newport, Dec. 8, 1737. Marriage Newport 1739 Almy, Mary, and John Greene, Dec. 8, 1739. more 1 49 Marriage Warwick | Family F03644
| I have made an assumption that John's second wife, named Mary, was Mary Almy; this assumption is based on the marriage record of John Greene of Warwick and Mary Almy of Newport. This took place in either 1737 or 1739. I have also made an assumption that she was the daughter of William. | Almy, Mary (I18568)
| I have made an assumption that Leroy belongs in this family group because his grave is near Daniel's & Anella's graves. | Remington, Leroy H. (I15555)
| I have made an assumption that Lester is a son of Amos & Clarina, and thus belongs in this family group (needs more research to confirm). In the 1880 Federal Census, Lester J. Remington is age 22, living with in Wilson, Gentry Co., Missouri, with Howard & Martha and their children. In 1920 Lester J. Remington is age 61, married to Mary age 49, and living with three children in the household in Maricopa, Arizona. | Remington, Lester John (I12675)
| I have made an assumption that Margaret is etiher a daughter or granddaughter of Henry and Gertrude. | Bogardus, Margaret (I29395)
| I have made an assumption that Maria is a daughter of Simon & Catherine because she is with them in the 1850 Federal Census at Wirt, Allegany Co., NY. One online family tree has Maria's first name as Rhoda. The church membership list has a Rhoda Wightman (see notes for her father Simon), but Maria is listed in the census records and cemetery records. I am making an assumption that she is the same individual, as noted on Gary Wightman's family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect. | Wightman, Rhoda Maria (I23464)
| I have made an assumption that Olive Knapp, married at Johnston, is a daughter of David Knapp. Note that I am not sure who her mother was; see notes for David. I have roughly estimated Olive's age. Either of the following entries from the RI Cemetery Database could be for this Olive (see notes for James): LEE OLIVE 1799c - 20 MAY 1875 GL023 (Acotes Hill Cemetery, Rt. 44, Glocester) LEE OLIVE 1804c - 17 MAY 1885 PV005 (Grace Church Cemetery, Elmwood & Broad, Prov) | Knapp, Olive (I23683)
| I have made an assumption that Penelope's husband was the son of John & Freelove (Gardner) Albro, born c 27 June 1745, possibly a twin. His name is given as Charles, Clark, & James in various genealogies. The marriage record says he was s/o John. | Albro, Clark (I05139)
| I have made an assumption that Reuel is Paul R. Remington, age 34, in the 1930 census. The age, location, and occupation are right for him. Revel Remington Last Residence: 95204 Stockton, San Joaquin, California, United States of America Born: 18 Oct 1895 Died: Sep 1982 State (Year) SSN issued: California (Before 1951 ) | Remington, Reuel R. (I22147)
| I have made an assumption that Roby's middle initial A, which appears in the 1850 census, stands for Ann. Her aunt was Roby Ann Remington. | Knight, Roby Ann (I09931)
| I have made an assumption that Russel belongs in this family group, because he and his family are living with Harriet Kent in the 1870 Federal Census. His year of birth fits the time frame, also. In the 1870 Federal Census, Russel and Abby Ann are both age 51, living in East Providence, RI, with his mother, Ruth Kent. Also in the home are two daughters, Clara A. & Anna R. In the 1880 Federal Census, Russel is a widower, age 61, living at East Providence with his daughter's family, William & Lucy Houghton and their four children. They are living next door to William & Betsey Armington, and nearby Russel's sister and brother-in-law, Hannah R. & Isaac B. Kent. | Kent, Russel D. (I12837)
| I have made an assumption that Sarah died before William's second marriage. | Unknown, Sarah (I18724)
| I have made an assumption that she is "Sarah Jene" daughter of John, born 21 May 1672 at Dartmouth, MA. In the old records the surname is spelled variously as Jene, Jeney, Jenne, Jennee, and Jenee. One family tree online has her father as John Jenney, b 10 Apr 1647 in Plymouth, MA, d 1727 Dartmouth, MA. This seems to agree with the Dartmouth records, which say he died in his 80th year. | JENNE, Sarah (I28355)
| I have made an assumption that she is Joan A. Chandler, who married a Horace Coleman in April 1943 in Thanet, Kent, England. | Chandler, Joan A. (I28982)
| I have made an assumption that she is the Margaret Hubbard who married William Vassel/Vassall at St. Michael's. This needs more research to confirm. | Hubbard, Margaret (I28617)
| I have made an assumption that she is the Rhoda Manchester who had a daughter named Nancy Manchester, recorded in the Tiverton VRs on 11 June 1764. The will below supports that, as her son-in-law John Manchester was first married to a Nancy, with their children's births recorded at Tiverton. Also, the executor was James Manchester, her nephew, who may have been the son of her brother Gilbert. In the 1820 Tiverton census Rhoda Manchester is living with just one male age 10-16. I am not sure that this is this particular Rhoda, but it is a reasonable assumption. Rhoda Manchester of Tiverton, gentlewoman, wrote her will 13 Aug 1823, proved 5 Sep 1825. In it she mentions her (stepson or son-in-law?) John Manchester and his wife Lucy; their five children: Gideon, Allen, John, Jr., Searel, & Nancy; 7 grandchildren -- Cornelius Cook Manchester (under 21); Thaddeus, Ellery, & Deborah Manchester; Sally Devole (w/o Joseph), Polly Devole (w/o Presbury), & Rhoda Gifford; also great-grandchild Nancy Devole dtr. of Sally; other individuals -- Andrew, Nancy, & Almy Gifford, children of Sylvester Gifford, Esq., of Little Compton: and Peace, wife of Cyrus Gray of NY. Her nephew James Manchester was appointed executor. I have a transcribed copy of the entire will. | Manchester, Rhody (I01774)
| I have made an assumption that Susan died in PA, because she and Thomas are living there in 1850 & 1860. | Remington, Susan (I21261)
| I have made an assumption that Susannah's father Peter is the same Peter Wells who was the father of John Wells b. 1676. | Wells, Susannah (I10066)
| I have made an assumption that Thankful Hill belongs here on this family tree, married to this particular Stephen. This is based on locations of subsequent generations of assumed cousins. One genealogy says she died during the birth of the youngest son, William. | Hill, Thankful (I22667)
| I have made an assumption that the death entry in Jeffrey Watson's Diary is for this particular Robert Northup. | Northup, Robert (I13918)
| I have made an assumption that the Emma Remington who married James Titus is Emma, the daughter of William & Elizabeth. The age and location exactly fit. | Remington, Emma (I14088)
| I have made an assumption that the following birth record pertains to this particular Elizabeth: 1742 BRIGHTMAN, Elizabeth, d. Thomas and Judah, Apr. 14, 1742, Dartmouth MA (source: newenglandancestors.org) | Brightman, Elizabeth (I22160)
| I have made an assumption that the following death notice is for this particular Jonathan Remington (needs verification): "Jonathan Remmington, Ensign US Army, d. at Watertown" (Columbian Centinel of 25 Nov 1795). | Remington, Jonathan (I08020)
| I have made an assumption that the James W. Remington in the 1900 census at Boston, married to Sarah J., is the James W. Remington in this family group. The age is about right. Since his mother died at Boston, this makes the assumption even more reasonable. | Remington, James W. (I15931)
| I have made an assumption that the Jane Remington who married Charles Watson is the Jane Remington in this family group. There are three reasons that support this assumption: her age in subsequent censuses agrees with her date of birth; she and Charles are living in Illinois, as are her parents; and she has a son named Philetus, which is also the name of one of her brothers. | Remington, Jane (I13078)
| I have made an assumption that the Joseph b 26 Aug 1699 Br to William & Hannah is the same Joseph who married Mary and had these 6 children, whose births are recorded at Warren. (needs more research to confirm) | EDDY, Joseph Sr. (I20643)
