| I have made an assumption that the Miss Remington who married Rev. L. W. Jackson, is Maria. Her age and place of residence at marriage match. In the censuses, her name is given as N. Maria Jackson. Perhaps her first name was Nancy, after her mother's name, but she was customarily called Maria. | Remington, Maria (I20003)
| I have made an assumption that the Robert Dennis (b 1678, Tiverton records) who married Susannah Briggs is the Robert Dennis born 5 Nov 1677 (Portsmouth records) to Robert & Sarah Dennis. This needs more research to confirm. I am assuming his birth was recorded when Robert was living at Tiverton, years after the event. As oldest son, Robert inherited land in Monmouth, NJ, from his father in his will proved 2 Jul 1691; this land had been purchased from Jedediah Allen, young Robert's uncle. In his own will, proved 17 Feb 1729/30, Robert in turn gave "all lands in Jerseys" to sons John and Thomas. Robert's will is dated 29 Dec 1729, proved 17 Feb 1729/30, Tiverton. It mentions wife Susana; sons John, Thomas, & Humphrey (dec'd); dtrs Comfort (w/o Philip Taylor s/o John), Ann, Tabitha, Sarah, Elizabeth, Deborah, & Lidia (last 4 under 18). (source: Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island, by John Osborne Austin, available at Googe Books and various libraries) | DENNIS, Robert (I22365)
| I have made an assumption that the Sophronia S. Remington, daughter of John, according to her marriage record at Becket, MA, belongs on this family group with John & Sarah Remington, mainly because there are several other marriages in this family recorded at Becket around the same time. | Remington, Susan Sophronia (I18616)
| I have made an assumption that Theodore is a son in this family, based on a few points: 1) he named a son Zeno; 2) his birth year range and location place him here; and 3) Theodore and Philander are both mentioned in a land assessment as grantees Jan 1849. In 1850, Theodore 25 and Margaret 23 are at Mentz, Cayuga Co., NY; they have a son Henry age 1. They appear to be living with or next to the family of Jonah and Malinda Campbell. My thought: Henry born c1849 is Zeno in later records; his middle initial is H; or, Henry died young and Zeno was born the next year and his middle name is Henry. I have come to the conclusion that Zeno was Theodore's father and Henry was Margaret's father. In 1860, they are at Horseheads, Chemung Co., NY: Theodore 30, Margaret 28, Zeno 10, George 5, John 1. Theodore Remington age 42 enlisted for Civil War 1863 in Cayuga, NY; mustered out of service 24 Aug 1865. In 1865 they are at Mentz, Cayuga Co., NY again: Theodore 32, Margaret 29 ?, Zeno 13 ?, George 8, John 6, Mary S. 4. Unclear, difficult to read. If I understand the census numbering correctly, they are in dwelling number 31, which is headed by Henry and Gertrude Bogardus, ages 75 and 74 (although on separate pages). In 1870 they are at Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY: Theodore 41, Margaret 39, Zeno 18, George 12, John 10; and Gertrude Bogardus 82. I am making an assumption that she is Margaret's mother. In 1880, Theodore Remington is age 55, a boarder in the family of John D. and Elinor Bogardus in Horseheads, Chemung Co., NY. They must also be related thorugh Margaret. His estimated year of birth changes so much in these records (1825 x2, 1821, 1829, 1830, 1833), but I am sure he is the same individual. | Remington, Theodore (I29394)
| I have made an assumption that these are the parents of William B. Turner, because they were all born in NY, and all are living at Becket, MA, in the censuses. In the 1850 and 1860 Federal Censuses, John & Sarah Turner are living at Becket, Berkshire Co., MA. In 1870, John is living at Granville, Hampden Co., MA, with Samuel & Sarah Brooker and family. Sarah Brooker is John's daughter. I assume his wife Sarah must have died. John's death record at Granville identifies his parents as David & Susan Turner. This may or may not be accurate, depending on the knowledge of the informant at the time of his death. The 1800 Federal Census lists a David Turner at Schodack, Rensselaer Co., NY; data shows two white males under age 10, among other categories. There are several other Turner families listed for that area of New York State. | Turner, John D. (I09292)
| I have made an assumption that these dates in the RI Cemetery Database are for this particular James Andrew. His grave is in Maple Root Cemetery, where many other family members are buried. (needs more research to confirm that these are the correct dates for this particular individual) | Andrew, James (I12164)
| I have made an assumption that these dates in the RI Cemetery Database are for this particular Lemuel Sweetland, mentioned in the will of his brother, Anthony. | Sweetland, Lemuel (I15004)
| I have made an assumption that these dates in the RI Cemetery Database are for this particular Nathaniel Sweetland, mentioned in the will of his brother, Anthony. | Sweetland, Nathaniel (I14999)
| I have made an assumption that these dates in the RI Cemetery Database belong to this individual. Benedict Colvin was a captain in the Revolutionary War. He was in charge of a company from Coventry. | Colvin, Captain Benedict (I08912)
| I have made an assumption that these dates in the RI Cemetery Database pertain to this couple. | Rogers, Peleg (I24385)
| I have made an assumption that these entries in the RI Cemetery Database are for this Joseph & Olive: LEE JAMES 1796 - 23 JUL 1843 PV005 LEE OLIVE 1804c - 17 MAY 1885 PV005 | Lee, James (I23684)
| I have made an assumption that this birthdate for John at Scituate belongs to the father of Phebe, who was "of Scituate" when she was married. | Franklin, John (I20906)
| I have made an assumption that this child, whose death at the age of one year is recorded in the RI Death Index, belongs in this family group. It says he is a son of William & Maria. | Remington, William G. (I14790)
| I have made an assumption that this couple are the parents of Israel, because he is the only Israel I could find in the vital records. This needs more research to confirm. | Haskell, Jacob (I28428)
| I have made an assumption that this date of birth and death belong to this particular William Sawyer, as he lived at South Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA. | Sawyer, William R. (I20266)
| I have made an assumption that this date of death belongs to this particular Henry Sawyer, as the state and month/year of birth match. | Sawyer, Henry A. Jr. (I20263)
| I have made an assumption that this date of death for Capt. Jeremiah Dimond in the 63rd year of his age belongs to this individual. | Diman, Jeremiah (I02655)
| I have made an assumption that this date of death in the Social Security Death Index belongs to this particular Augusta Remington. The age is about right. | Unknown, Augusta G. (I20711)
| I have made an assumption that this death record pertains to this particular Mary, wife of John Pitcher: PITCHER Mrs. Mary, wife of Capt. John, at Cranston, in 55th year, Aug. 13, 1792; Providence, RI PITCHER Mary, wife of Capt. John, at Cranston, in 55th year; sermon by Rev. Mr. Snow, Job | Unknown, Mary (I26615)
| I have made an assumption that this family group in the 1920 Federal Census belongs to this particular William Remington. The age and location seem to indicate that he is the same William, son of Delano. The family is living at Knox, Holmes Co., OH. the household consists of: William 43 day laborer, Myrtle E. 39, Fred W., 14, Alice R. 12, and James L. 10, all b OH. In the Federal Census of 1930, this may be the family at Monroe, Richland Co., OH: W. B. Remington 54 laborer public building, Mrs. W. B. H. 49, James 21 laborer steel mill. | Remington, William (I14267)
| I have made an assumption that this George Morse in the RI Cemetery Database is a son of George and Anne Louisa. He is of the correct age to be their son, and is buried in the same cemetery. I have checked their cemetery plot and there is a George buried there, but the stone is mostly illegible. | Morse, George (I23096)
| I have made an assumption that this is the Rufus Tripp who married Adeline Manchester. (Needs more research to confirm) | Tripp, Rufus (I18496)
| I have made an assumption that this is theri marriage record: 1741 BRIGHTMAN, Thomas Jr., of Dartmouth, s. of Thomas, and Judah Manchester of Dartmouth, d. of Stephen, marriage record 24 Dec 1741, Dartmouth, MA (source: newenglandancestors.org) | Family F08422
| I have made an assumption that this John Jenney in the Dartmouth records is the father of Sarah who married Daniel Shearman. | JENNE, John (I28361)
| I have made an assumption that this Joseph belongs in this family, based on a manuscript at New England Historic Genealogical Society which is referenced on Rootsweb's Worldconnect; this family tree also references Valerie George as a source. I have not yet studied this manuscript personally (Book of Ross by Ernest E. Fewkes), nor have I contacted Valerie George for confirmation. This family needs more research. In the 1850 Federal Census, the family is living in Ashford, Cattaraugus County, NY: Joseph Remington, 58, male, farmer, b. VT Amanda, 55, female, b. CT Bela C., 22, male, carpenter/joiner, b. NY Melinda, 21, female, b. NY Joseph, 17, male, b. NY Persis, 15, female, b. NY Aurora, 28, female, b. NY Samuel Canfield, 22, male, b. NY In the 1860 Federal Census, the family is still at Ashford: Joseph Rimmington 67 VT, farmer Amanda 64 VT Amora 38 NY Riley Williams 28 NY Persis W. 24 NY Ida 3 mos. NY Son Bela and family are living next to Joseph and family. Joseph Remington was Justice of the Peace at Ashford in 1841 and 1845. | Remington, Joseph (I22347)
| I have made an assumption that this Joseph Ellsbree living at Fall River in the 1850 Federal Census is a son of Joshua & Rhoda (Brightman) Elsbree. Joseph and his family are living near "Rhoda Ellsbree," age 77, who is living with Samuel Brightman & family, near several other Brightman families. Joseph has a son named Henry, which is one clue that he belongs in this family, since Rhoda's father was Henry Brightman. In 1850 he is age 30 and his wife Laura is 34. They have five children: Joseph A. 12, Henry M. 10, Adelaide J. 7, John F. 5, & Hannah J. 2, all born MA. In 1860 the family is still at Fall River, MA: Joseph 48, Laura 36, Adelaide I. 17, John F. 14, & Hannah J. 13. Also in the household are Lorenzo D. White 25 VT, & Ariadne 7 MA. It is not clear what Ariadne's last name is, but perhaps she is a younger daughter of Joseph & Laura, since they had a twin of that name who died. The death record of Joseph Elsbree gives his date of death as 17 Aug 1886, at age 74 y 5 m 27 d; residence 53 Elsbree in Fall River; occupation farmer; cause of death was stomach cancer; parents identified as Joshua and Rhoda. (Fall River Vol.373: Pg.93) | Elsbree, Joseph (I18673)
| I have made an assumption that this marriage belongs to this particular Daniel. The other Daniel in the area was also married in 1754, so they can not be the same individual. I have also estimated his birth year. | Briggs, Daniel (I10444)
| I have made an assumption that this marriage in the RI Marriage Index is for this particular Frank H. Remington. Frank & Alice are in the 1880 Federal Census, living in District 39, Providence, RI. There is another marriage record for a Frank H. Remington, dated 5 July 1882, to Sarah T. Sullivan. This may be a second marriage for this same individual (needs more research). | Remington, Frank H. (I15007)
| I have made an assumption that this marriage record at Richmond is for this particular Avis Rogers. She probably married a cousin. | Rogers, Avis (I24384)
| I have made an assumption that this marriage record belongs to this particular Emma D. | Hambly, Emma D. (I17914)
| I have made an assumption that this marriage record belongs to this particular Margaret Remington, simply because of the location. | Remington, Margaret (I08236)
| I have made an assumption that this Maud L. Hoxsie, married to Henry A. Sawyer, is the Maud in this family group. I need to check the original marriage record to verify her parents' names. | Sawyer, Henry A. Sr. (I20262)
| I have made an assumption that this Maud L. Hoxsie, married to Henry A. Sawyer, is the Maud in this family group. I need to check the original marriage record to verify her parents' names. | Hoxsie, Maud L. (I20258)
| I have made an assumption that this may be her birth record: 1788 ALLEN, Betty, ch. Joseph (s. Daniel and Betty) and Prudence (d. Caleb Earl and Elizabeth) born Dec 22 1788, Westport, MA (source: newenglandancestors.org) According to a family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, Betsey/Betty's maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Brightman who married Caleb Earle. If that is correct, the following information possibly pertains to this Elizabeth Brightman: 1742 BRIGHTMAN, Elizabeth, d. Thomas and Judah, Apr. 14, 1742, Dartmouth MA And, her parents: 1741 BRIGHTMAN, Thomas Jr., of Dartmouth, s. of Thomas, and Judah Manchester of Dartmouth, d. of Stephen, marriage record 24 Dec 1741, Dartmouth, MA (source: newenglandancestors.org) These families are all related to our ancestors. The censuses all state Betsey's place of birth as RI, so she may have been born in RI but her birth was recorded at Westport. Her age in all the censuses agrees with the above date of birth. | Allen, Elizabeth "Betsey" (I22156)
| I have made an assumption that this particular Ivy, d/o Walter & Agnes Palmer in the 1900 census, living at Franklin, Houghton Co., MI, is Arthur's wife. This seems to be a reasonable assumption since Arthur's family was also living at Houghton County. Another genealogy has her name as Ivy Davis. Perhaps she was married before she married Arthur. This needs more research to confirm. | Palmer, Ivy (I21008)
| I have made an assumption that this record is for this particular Mary: 1705: MUNRO, Mary, wife of Thomas, Feb. 13, 1705. Vol. 2 p. 77 Death Bristol | Wordell, Mary (I16518)
| I have made an assumption that this wife and two children in the census data belong to this particular Paul Remington. His age and birthplace agree, and since he moved to MN with his mother and stepfather, this makes it more likely that he later moved to ND. In the 1900 Federal Census, Paul & Odessa and their daughter Elizabeth are living at Bismarck, Burleigh Co., ND. In 1910 the family is still at Bismarck, Burleigh Co., ND. There are now two children: Elisabeth & Paul Jr. In 1920, Paul, Odessa, and Paul Jr. are still there. In 1930, Paul & Odessa are still living at Bismarck. Son Paul is married and living in the same town. | Remington, Paul Calvin (I05231)
| I have made an assumption that Thomas died in PA, because he and Susan are living there in 1850 & 1860. In both censuses, they are living at Conneaut, Crawford Co., PA; family members with them include George (and his family), Almira, & Mary. | Stafford, Thomas (I21260)
| I have made an assumption that Timothy is a son of Isaac & Lucy Manchester, who are living with him in the 1850 Federal Census. They are at Lanesborough, Berkshire Co., MA. | Manchester, Timothy M. (I03233)
| I have made an assumption that Vina belongs in this family group because her grave is near Daniel's & Anella's graves. | Remington, Vina H. (I15557)
| I have made an assumption that William was born on Prudence Island and that he died at North Kingstown, although this is only a guess based on available evidence about his life. Also, please note that I am not sure that he was a son of William Remington and Mary Manton, although it is known that they were living on Prudence Island during the 1700s. Portsmouth land evidence shows that a William Remington was living on Prudence Island in the mid-1700s, and according to two deeds he had a wife named Freelove. It is certainly possible that William married an Allen, because most of the land sales involving his name have one or more Allens also involved. Therefore, it is documented that William and his wife Freelove were of Prudence Island, and furthermore that he purchased a house and land in North Kingstown from Job Tibbetts in 1775. This was the year that residents of the island evacuated because of the British raids in which they burned the dwellings and fought the colonists. It is reasonable to assume that he relocated to North Kingstown, and eventually died there. However, it appears that he was in Coventry at the time of the Military Census of 1777 The dates for William are from James N. Arnold's "Family Notes" Volume R, an unpublished manuscript located at the Knight Library in Providence. However, some online genealogies have his date of death as 1 March 1764. To be sure, that is the date of death for a William Remington -- but which one? I have used that date for the William b. c1680, who may be the father of this William; but there was still another William who died in 1768 at Cranston. Charles Gregory Maytum's Notes on the Remington family, at Newport Historical Society, give William's date of birth as 17 Aug 1729, and his date of death as 30 Aug 1812. This differs slightly from Arnold's data. I have not been able to determine his ancestry for sure. Other Remingtons mentioned in Portsmouth land evidence are John Remington, who had moved from Warwick to Portsmouth; Thomas Remington, who had a wife named Amy; another William whose wife was Mary; Josiah; and Jonathan; as well as my ancestor Joseph. It is possible that there was more than one William, and that one was the father or uncle of the other. Research on these families is ongoing. 1777 Military Census, Coventry - listed are William Remington, res. Po; Hezekiah Remington, res. Po; & Thomas Remington From Portsmouth land evidence: WR of PI, boatman, bought land for 600 pounds from William Allen of PI, prob aft. 27 Apr 1757 (no date). The land was 80 rods by 12 rods and bounded as follows: N & E by Ebenezer Allin, W by land of me, sd William Allen, S by John Allen. Mary Allin wife of William Allin surrenders rights of dower and power of thirds. William Allin's signature witnessed by Samuel Lyndon Jr & Mary Lyndon; Mary Allin's signature witnessed by Nathaniel Allin & Joseph Bates. No wife of WR mentioned. Spelling of Allin/Allen is varied in copy of deed. (Po Land Ev Bk 5 p 579 & 580) WR of PI, boatman, sold | Remington, William (I05862)
| I have made an assumption the the Jennie Remington who married W. D. Pulver is this Jennie Remington. The approximate year of birth and location match. | Remington, Jennie (I15275)
| I have no documentation for Mary, other than Boyd Scott Remington's ancestry chart. I have estimated her year of birth based on the family group (father's date of death; her siblings' dates), but if true she would have been 43 when she married. Possibly she was the daughter of Isaac, Jr. (?). | Remington, Mary (I08091)
| I have not as yet confirmed that Joshua is John's son, as indicated on the ancestry chart by Boyd Scott Remington. However, it is a reasonable assumption, particularly since Joshua had a daughter named Mariam, probably named after Mariam Sweet. Joshua became a freeman in 1742, was appointed fence viewer for Johnston in 1759, and highway overseer in 1768. He is listed in the 1777 Military Census at Johnston, RI, along with sons Stephen & Joshua, Jr.. BSR says Joshua's grave is in a cemetery on Central Ave., Johnston, but there is no listing in the RI Cemetery Database. Perhaps there was no stone, or the stone has been taken. Several cemeteries in Johnston are now labeled as "missing." Is he the one who built the Remington farmhouse on Central Ave.? According to information on the back of the photo, it was built in 1713. I have estimated the birth years for some of Joshua's children. | Remington, Joshua (I04664)
| I have not been able to determine Eunice's parentage. She was not the Eunice Briggs born 15 Jul 1754 at Little Compton, because that Eunice died 5 Nov 1847. | Briggs, Eunice (I25499)
| I have not been able to determine who Sarah's parents are. In the 1790 census, there are two Fisher families listed for Dartmouth: James and William. There is a birth record in Norton, MA, for a Sarah Fisher, born 20 Feb 1766 to Abijah and Mary, but she may or may not be the one who married Alfred/Alford Rounds. The marriage record of 1784 says she is of Dartmouth. | Fisher, Sarah (I28755)
| I have not been able to locate William or Mary in the 1850 census. | Macy, William S. (I20350)
| I have not found a birth record for this particular William. He is a son of William, according to his will. This needs more research. William's will mentions his father William, wife Patience, and children Gideon, Joseph (under 21), and Ann (under 18). The wording suggests that that Patience may have been his second wife, but this is not certain. | ALMY, William Jr. (I18530)
| I have not found Josiah in the Mayflower book on Francis Cooke and his descendants. | Cooke, Josiah (I05986)
| I have not seen data on Charles, but I am including him here because Pat Boyden's Remington genealogy places him here as a son of Ransom. This seems reasonable because two of his sons, Eri and Silas, are mentioned in Ransom's will. | Remington, Charles (I22732)
