| 3051 | In 1850, William Remington is age 22, working as a machinist at Northbridge, MA. Is he the William B. Remington who married Martha E. Thompson in RI on 19 Nov 1863? (She was b c1827, d 10 Aug 1873 RIDI) But see information below, from A. B. Gerard. The Northbridge, MA, VRs transcribed at NEGS web site have his dob as 3 Sep 1827. However, this seems too close to his sister Elizabeth -- unless one of their dates is incorrect. Or, they may have been twins born three months apart -- a possibility . From A. B. Gerard on Remington message board at ancestry: "Benedict Remington and Mary Cathcart's son, William Benedict Remington, ended up in Kansas. There are military records of his enlistment from Whitinsville, Northbridge, MA. He served at a few forts in Texas that protected the Overland Mail Route and then upon discharge moved to Kansas in the late 1850s. He died there sometime before 1880. In the 1870 census, Mary Remington is age 63, living at New Bedford with her three daughters Alice 40, Lucy 26, & Ella 20. In 1880 Mary W. Remington is age 72, keeping house at 169 County St., New Bedford, along with single daughters Lucy J. 35 (school teacher) and Ella H. 28 (at home). In the Federal Census of 1930, Cornelius Remington 78 VT is widowed, living with married daughter Maud Taylor and family on Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA. From Pamela A. Schenian: "The house that Cornelius G. Remington designed for himself is still standing and is at 173 Linden, Hampton, VA. The one he designed as a wedding gift for Maud in 1910 is at 331 S. Armistead, about a block from his house. He also designed a house next door to Maud's as a wedding gift for Catherine's to Jack Reagan, a journalist, but they moved out of the area just a few years later and eventually something happened to the house. Joseph & Josephine's family, including their six children, is in the 1880 Federal Census at Cranston, RI, on the east side of Broad St. The youngest son has not yet been named. I believe this must be Lawrence. Joseph F. Remington and his son E. T. Remington are living in Warwick, RI, in 1910. From "Death Notices" at RI Historical Society Library: Joseph F. Remington, 66th yr., 5 Aug 1913, at Pawtuxet. He may have been named for Dr. Joseph Warren Fearing, an esteemed physician for 32 years in Providence.
