In 1860 Daniel is age 75, still living in Franklin and apparently widowed. With him is son Wilson, married to Betsey and with an infant son; also daughter Maria is in the household. In addition, Sally N. Rich, age 60 is listed last. Is she Daniel's wife listed with her maiden name, or is she a sister-in-law? The 1850 census has Daniel's birthplace as NY, but the 1860 says VT, which I think is correct. The following information was found on the Delaware County, NY, web site: At an annual meeting held in school District No 16 in Franklin, NY, on the evening of 6 of Oct 1834, among the officers elected for the ensuing year was Daniel Remington. In 1853/54 Daniel Remington paid $25 toward the construction of a Baptist church in East Franklin, NY. Daniel died at age 80 of inflammation of the lungs. | Remington, Daniel (I19993)

These, by special order of the war department, were formed into a battalion of three companies, to be known as 'Battalion Seventh Rhode Island Volunteers'. This organization was continued until July 13th, 1865, when the battalion was mustered out of service near Alexandria, VA. The men, about 200 in number, returned to Providence under the command of Captain Caleb T. Bowen, with Adjutant George B. Costello and Surgeon C. G. Corey. The other commissioned officers were Captain Daniel S. Remington and Lieutenant A. R. Collins, Company B; Captain Winthrop A. Moore and Lieutenant Merchant Weeden, Company D; Lieutenant C. In the Federal Census of 1880, Edward & Sarah A., ages 74 & 72, are still at Wirt. Other family members are close by. The following notes are from this source: "History of Allegany County, N.Y.: with illustrations descriptive of scenery, private residences, public buildings, fine blocks, and important manufactories, from original sketches by artists of the highest ability, and portraits of old pioneers and prominent residents" (New York: F.W. Beers, 1879) p 381: The First-Day Baptist Church of Richburg was set off from the Baptist Church of Friendship and constituted as a church 29 Feb 1828. Among its founding members were the following Wightmans: Simon, Catherine, Roona, Rhoda, & Edward. Also, on its list of deacons or clerks is E. H. Wightman (this is likely Edward Hubbard Wightman). Edward H. Wightman was Town Supervisor of Wirt in 1866/67. | Wightman, Edward Hubbard (I23463)

Adult children in the household are Calvin, Emeline, & Matilda; also, Mary A. Sanford, age 5, is there. They are next door to Abraham & Lydia Manchester; Abraham is probably Ellery's brother. In the 1870 Federal Census, Ellery is age 79 and Hannah is 73. They are still at Westport., MA. I have made an assumption that the death record at Westport of Ellery Manchester in 1871 is for this individual, although I have not yet viewed the original record. | Manchester, Ellery (I17145)

In the 1860 Federal Census, George is age 64 and still living with the Tobey/Toby family in Easton. George and John Remington were in the war of 1812, listed with soldiers from Easton, NY, 156th NY Infantry, 16th Brigade of the 10th Division. | Remington, George (I09446)

In the 1870 Federal Census, Hamilton & Jane Sharp are ages 63 & 62, living at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA. Also in town are several other Sharp families, most likely their children and grandchildren. Their three Remington grandsons are living with the William Sharp family next door. In 1880, H. W. & Jane Sharpe are ages 73 & 71, living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA. In their home are three boarders and four servants. The information on Hamilton's parents was found at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, the family tree of Pamela D. Hudson. Another database has different dates for Elizabeth Wynn. This needs more research to confirm the names and dates. In 1880, Hiram & Nancy are back in Lorraine, and in the household with them is their married son Byron, his wife Alma, and their daughter Gertrude. He is probably the Hiram Remington 1824-1905 buried in Ellisburgh, Jefferson County, NY, listed as a Civil War Soldier on the NYGenweb site. | Remington, Hiram (I11578)
3390 | In the 1850 Federal Census, his name appears as Orthos, and his age is given as 1. His family is living in WI. In 1870 he appears to be Arthur, age 20, in MN, a farm laborer. In 1880 he is Arthur, 30, living in CO, a prospector. In 1910 he is Orthus, born Sep 1850, age 59/60, living in AK, a road house keeper. In the census of 1 Jan 1920 he is Orthus, age 69, still single, living in Kern Co., CA. He is a dishwasher at the Salt Works. |

3392 | In the 1850 Federal Census, Holden & Anner are living at Greenwich, Washington Co., NY. In 1860 they are in Warrensburg, Warren Co., NY. However, I think the census taker mixed up two adjacent families, as the names of the wives and children seem to have been confused. In the Federal Census of 1870, Holden & Anna are living at Warrensburgh, Warren Co., NY. They have four children. | Lewis, Holden K. (I09001)
3393 | In the 1850 Federal Census, Holden is 66 and Phebe is 56. They are living at Cranston, RI. Next to them is Obadiah Colvin and family, as well as Jabez Colvin, who are probably brothers, sons of David & Lucy (Remington) Colvin. If my assumptions are correct, Phebe is a first cousin to Obadiah & Jabez. The RI Death Index identifies Holden as s/o Edmund & Lydia (Collins) Colvin. He died at age 83. | Colvin, Holden (I19178)

3396 | In the 1850 Federal Census, Isaac is age 62, living at Oswego, Oswego Co., NY. With him is son Solomon and his family, as well as Huldah & Joseph, probably two more of his children. Living two doors down are Nathan & Rhoda Remington; I am making an assumption that Nathan is another son in this family. Pat Boyden's genealogy has Isaac's date of death as 11 Nov 1860. However, I have not been able to locate him anywhere in the 1860 census. (This needs more research to confirm.) Isaac & Huldah also may have had two additional daughters, named Sarah & Betsy (per notes sent by Charles Norman Hill). Follow-up to above note: I have found a couple in the 1850 census, named Oliver & Sarah Morgan. From her daughter Brintha's gravestone inscription, I know that Sarah's maiden name is Remington. Therefore, I am including Sarah as a daughter in this family group (needs further research to confirm). | Remington, Isaac (I13379)

His sister Sarah is still living with the family, as well as two other boarders. According to the 1850 census, James was born in MA, but the 1860 says NY. It might have been either; his brother David was born in MA, but sister Sarah was born in NY. | Remington, James (I08219)
