| In the 1880 Federal Census, F. H. Remington is age 21, single, and living at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA. In the April 1910 Federal Census, Frank H. & Mollie J. Remington, ages 50 & 46, are living at Precinct 6, Stephens Co., TX. According to the census data they have been married 24 years and have had 9 children, 8 of whom are still living. In the household with them are: Elsey M., 23 (a son, single), Marvin 20, Earnest 16, Willie E. 14, Clara L. 12, & Alton T. 4. All of the children were born in TX. | Remington, Francis "Frank" Henry Jr. (I10688)
| In the 1880 Federal Census, F. M. Remington & Irene are living in Silver Creek Precinct, Silverton, Marion Co., OR, with their two young daughters. In 1900 they are at Spalding, Nez Perce Co., ID. I am wondering if Francis Marion was "California" in the 1850 Census. That year, there is listed an older brother named Francis, born c1831. Perhaps that brother subsequently died, and the youngest brother's name was changed to Francis. | Remington, Francis Marion (I12922)
| In the 1880 Federal Census, Frank & Alice are living in Foster with their 1-yr-old son Clarence. They are near Alice's mother and stepfather, Patience & John Kettle. In the 1920 Federal Census, Frank R. Briggs is still living in Foster at age 62. With him is wife Ida (probably his second), and son Clarence 40. | Briggs, Frank R. (I12232)

| In the 1880 Federal Census, George & Betsy are living at Voluntown, Windham Co., CT. They have four children, the oldest of whom is probably from George's first marriage: George E. 13, Frank 4, Gertie 3, Annie 1; all born in RI except Annie born in CT. In 1900, the family is living at Coventry, RI. The three younger children are with them. According to the census data in 1900, George was born in August 1839. However, that would place his birth closer to (assumed) brother Cyrus. Also, his wife's birth date is given as "unknown" in the 1900 census, and the children's dates differ from other census data. The gravestone inscription says he was born in 1839. Possibly he and Cyrus were twins. In the Apr 1910 Federal Census, George W. Remington is a widower age 70, living at Voluntown, New London Co., CT. He is with or next to (assumed) married daughter Grace Gardner and her family. His death record at Voluntown, CT, has confirmed my guess concerning his parentage, that his father is Sheffield R. Remington. The informant was Manford Malborn (probably Malbone?). | Remington, George Waterman (I04801)
| In the 1880 Federal Census, George & Julia Wolcott, ages 26 & 21, are living at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. They would have been married about six months at this time. With them are George's parents, Samuel & Maria. | Wolcott, George (I20238)
| In the 1880 Federal Census, George & Sarah are living in Providence, RI, with the three girls. In the 1900 Federal Census, the family is living on Warren Ave. in East Providence, RI. Six children are in the household: Mabel E., George L. Jr., Leonora A., Sarah M., Arthur D., & Clifton S . In the 1910 Federal Census, George L. Nottage is age 56 RI, widowed, a painter living at Jamestown, Newport Co., RI. Census data shows his father as born in RI and his mother in CT. In the same census, he is also listed as living in Providence with his married daughter and husband, Leonora A. & Walter P. Stinchfield. It is possible that his wife Thera is not listed in 1910, but that she and George were still married. In 1920 George L. Nottage is age 64 RI, remarried, and still a painter (runs shop), living at Los Angeles, CA. His wife is Theria A., 67 NY. In the Federal Census of 1930, George is an "inmate" in Infirmary 14 of the Los Angeles County Farm in Downey Township. According to census data, he is age 75 and widowed. |
| In the 1880 Federal Census, Hannah Remington, age 44 b Scotland, is living at Civil Bend, Union Co., Dakota Territory. With her is daughter Grace, age 14, b MI (parents b VT/Scot). Apparently Hannah's husband and son Thomas were mining for gold in Wyoming at this time. In 1900, Hannah Remington, widow age 67, is living at Logan, Blaine Co., OK. According to the census data, she has had two children, both of whom are still living. Son Thomas and his family are also living in the same locality. In a signed statement dated 7 Nov 1896, Hannah said she was age 62 [b c1834?]and living with her son-in-law and daughter Grace at Watonga, Blaine Co., OK. She states that she moved from the farm in SD to OK on 26 Nov 1894. She mentions the river flooding part of the family farm in SD, such that crops were ruined and some of the animals drowned. Her primary reason for moving to OK to be with her daughter was her poor health -- her lungs and eyes are bad. | Welch, Hannah (I18284)
| In the 1880 Federal Census, Harriet A. Aborn a. 77 is "keeping house," and Maria F. Condy a. 84 is boarding with her. The two widows are living at Providence, RI. I am making an assumption that they are sisters, since marriage records show that Harriet was d/o "Capt. Charles" and Maria was "d/o Charles." This has since been confirmed by data from other sources. Notes from the Mary E. Rice Collection, concerning Cranston Land Evidence, deed bk #1 pp. 584 & 585, dated 17 Oct 1825: Mary C. Remington, widow of Charles, deceased late of said Cranston, mariner, and William Henry Aborn of Providence, merchant, and his wife Harriot Angeline Aborn . . . " The content of this transaction concerned the release of all debts pertaining to the estate of Charles, also a release to Samuel Aborn Condy and wife Maria Frances. (Maria & Harriet were sisters.) I wonder if Harriet A. and Henry A. were twins? If not, she must have been born early in 1803, or even in 1802. According to the RI Cemetery Database, the cause of her death was paralysis. | Remington, Harriet Angeline (I11196)

Remington was born in Cranston in 1830. His father Henry A. Remington was a son of Capt. Charles Remington who came from England and died in 1812 (this is inaccurate). Henry was a mechanic, but in 1842 he settled on a farm. Six years later the son, Horatio A., left home to learn the machinist's trade. After working at his trade for about 17 years, he in 1866 became junior partner with S. Colvin & Co., at River Point, in the manufacture of looms. His wife was Martha A. Knight.
