451 According to consistent census data, he would have been born around 1862/63.

In the 1870 and 1880 Federal Censuses, Willie is living with his parents at Thomasville, GA. In 1870 Willie is 8, and in 1880 he is 17.

The following census data may also apply to this particular William D. Remington:
In 1910 W. D. Remington is 45 and his wife Tyne is 30. They are on Baltimore Ave. in Waycross, Ware Co., GA. In 1920 William D. Remington is age 57, and his wife Tyne is 40. They are still living at 21 Baltimore Ave. in Waycross, Ware Co., GA. In 1930 they are still there; William D. is 67 and Tyne J. is 50. The 1920 census data says that both of Williams's parents were born in GA, while the 1930 census says they were both born in RI; but these inconsistencies may be due to misunderstandings or errors by the informants or the census takers (his father was born in RI, his mother in GA). Also in the household in 1930 is a niece, Ethel Campbell, age 16.

Family history says William died in Caddo, TX (needs research to confirm).

I have entered the information for this marriage to Tynie Jones, with the assumption it belongs to this particular William (pending further research). Census data shows no other William Remington or W. Remington born in Georgia.
Remington, William "Willie" Dasher (I13497)

452 According to Coventry town records, Mary died of consumption at age 19 years, 5 months, and 17 days. She and her sister Jenny (Jennie) had married two brothers, John Allen Remington & Benjamin Franklin Remington. (John Allen is my great-grandfather) Wilson, Mary (I00365)

453 According to DAR records, Abigail married James Arnold and died in 1802; they had a daughter named Lucy (sources?). See notes for will of Josephus. Rice, Abigail (I24969)

454 According to DAR records, his name is Adelwiches Dyonisius Remington.

According to one web site, A. J. Dyonisius Remington settled at Big Springs, Nebraska.
(source: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/childlor.htm)

However, he and his wife appear to be in the 1870 Federal Census at Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co., NY, and are buried in the Maplewood Cemetery at Mannsville, Jefferson Co., NY. In 1880 A. Dyonisius Remington is age 41, still living at Ellisburgh with his mother-in-law Abby (?) Larmouth, nephew James Larmouth & Estella, and (presumed) son Merritt Remington, 6.

It is possible that A. Dyonisius Remington remarried after the death of his first wife, and at some point moved to Nebraska. In the 1920 Federal Census, there is a Hattie K. Remington, widow age 81, b. NY, living at Big Springs, NE. (See the following notes.)

These notes are excerpted from a website on the descendants of Willliam Hall of Newport and Portsmouth, RI:
"A. J. Dyonisius Remington married Phebe A. Larmonth the mother of his sons. When Phebe died, their only living son was just about 7 years old. A. D. married Hattie King in Sandy Creek, NY, two years later. His occupation on the census was 'dealer in fruit'. He began peddling fruit in New York City until he, along with his partners, owned one of the largest fruit markets in New York City. This was an age of sailing vessels - A. D. and his partners took their vessels to Cuba, to the islands and to the coast of the Mediterranean for their cargoes. When the steamship began to ply the ocean, A. D. with forethought and judgment knew they would destroy the profits of the trade so advised his partners to sell. They decided not to and became bankrupt while A. D. retired with a handsome fortune. He didn't have plans to retire and had several years ago purchased land in a new frontier, Nebraska, where the cowboys were! In July of 1886 the family of three left Sandy Creek, NY, drove a team and wagon to Buffalo, boarded a boat from there through the Great Lakes to Chicago. From there they drove across the prairies to their Ranch in Nebraska. Times began to get rough severe winters and drought forced many of the settlers to go back East. The hardy ones stayed and acquired more pasture land. A. D. is credited with saving Big Springs, NE by loaning money to those in need, procuring aid for the settlers and providing livestock on shares. A. D. was a rancher in Nebraska 13 years before he died. He was buried on his ranch for a couple of years, then as he had requested, his body was taken back to Mannsville, NY to be buried by the generations of family. The Nebraska newspaper honored him by these words; 'In the death of A. D. Remington, Deuel County in general have lost a valuable citizen. His neighbors, to whom he was banker, merchant and advisor already realize that it will be hard to find a merchant and banker so forbearing and an advisor so trustworthy.' "

455 According to data in the 1880 census, Loranna was born in VT (per son Jerry).

In her father's will, she is called Lorney or Loraney.
Griffiths, Loranna (I07993)

456 According to data on the 1880 Federal Census for their (assumed?) son Morgan, Phebe may have been born in Vermont. One genealogy says she was born in Granville, NY.

Also, in the 1880 census for son Ezekiel, it says his parents were born RI/VT.

Phebe, wife of Benjamin Remmington

died Sept. 17, 1843

in the 65th year of her age.

To Jesus Christ I sought for rest,

He bade me cease to rove

And fly for refuge to His breast

And He'll conduct me home.
Thompson, Phebe (I05772)

457 According to data on the 1880 Federal Census, both Ellen and George noted that their father was born in RI and their mother in NY. Unknown, F. J. (I13549)

458 According to data on the 1900 Federal Census, Alphonsine came to America in 1871. It also says she has had 7 children, 4 of whom are still living in 1900.

The marriage record at Coventry has her maiden name as Alfonsine Plante.

It appears that she is Annie Plante, age 12, in the 1880 census, living at Coventry, RI, with her parents Felix & "Merian" Plante and family. All of the siblings were born in Canada except the two youngest. Annie is working in a cotton mill, as are all of her siblings except the two youngest. Her father works on a farm.
Plante, Alphonsine "Rosie" (I21073)

459 According to data on the 1900 Federal Census, Hyacinthe came to America in 1885.

In the Federal Census of 1900, Hyacinth & Alphonsine Marcotte are living at Warwick, RI. They have four sons: William, Narcis, Walter, & Joseph.

In the Federal Census of 1920, "Harrison" & "Rosie" Marcotte are living at Coventry, RI. In the household are six of their children, ages 9 - 24.

In the Federal Census of 1930, "Harrison" & "Alphonte" Marcotte, ages 63 & 61, are still living at Coventry, RI, on Mill Street. With them are Walter, George, & Gladys.

Other Marcotte marriages in Coventry are for Adelaide Marcotte (b c1864), Moneline Marcotte (b c1866), and Hermine Marcotte (b c1868). I don't know whether they are related to Hyacinthe; but I do know that Moneline & Hermine are sisters, both married the same day in Warwick, 12 Sep 1887, by Rev. C. P. Gaboury.
Marcotte, Hyacinthe (I21072)

460 According to descendant Jane Hardin, John & Nancy Remington were in Linn Co., IA. They were out west for awhile while John worked on the railroad. Remington, John Hurlbert (I09458)

461 According to descendant Russell Shaw, for a while this family lived on Chapin St. in Providence. Arthur & Mary died of the flu in 1918.

In the 1910 Federal Census, Arthur L. & Adelaide M. Shaw, ages 27 & 22, are boarding at 131 Willard Ave., Ward 5, Providence, RI. With them is son Benjamin F., age 3. According to the census data, Arthur's parents were both born in Canada; also, Arthur & Adelaide have been married for 3 years; and, Adelaide has had three children, one of whom is still living. It appears from RI death records that she had two children born after this time who also died.
Shaw, Arthur Llewelyn Jr. (I00407)

462 According to descendant Ward J. Roylance, Jerome Napoleon was named for Napoleon Bonaparte of France and his brother Jerome. Napoleon and his various family members were popular in America during this time, and many parents named their children after Napoleon, his brothers Jerome and Joseph, and his wife Maria.

Jerome Remington suffered from asthma and therefore had ill health at various time during his life.

Both orphaned, Jerome Remington & Lydia Badger migrated to Nebraska from Nauvoo, IL. They were married in NE and lived as pioneers there, later migrating to Utah in 1849/50.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Jerome & Lydia are living at Great Salt Lake, Utah Territory. They moved to Paradise, UT, in the fall of 1860.

All individuals in this family group -- except those who died prior to 1880 -- have been located on the 1880 Federal Census.

The inspiring story of their family can be found in "Remingtons of Utah" by Ward J. Roylance.
Remington, Jerome Napoleon (I08177)

463 According to Don Appleby's genealogy web site, Laura's maiden name was Cault. Cault, Laura J. (I13445)

464 According to Don Shaw's family tree at Rootsweb, Mary was married to Franklin Bigelow, had a child Beulah, then was divorced about 1900. Remington, Mary (I11595)

465 According to Eli Wodell, Joseph "went up country and I think married there." Dennis, Joseph (I00930)

466 According to Eli's biography, his father was "a very bad man," a "sad miserable drunkard" who gambled and abused his family. He characterizes his mother as a good woman and a good mother who endured her abusive husband for 45 years.

He and his wife separated/divorced and he later remarried and his second wife hanged herself. Eli was accused of murder but eventually was acquitted. He was a declared atheist and a very mixed-up man, admitting to his propensity for women that got him in trouble, according to his memoirs in the book he wrote on the Wodell family.
Wodell, Eli (I24646)

467 According to family data, Henry's first wife was Abenna Patient. However, in the 1910 Federal Census, her name is given as Josephine, age 22 MI, parents b Canada. I have searched the previous census data and can not find anyone with a name resembling Abenna Patient. This needs more research. Could her name have been Alvina Perrault? Patient, Abenna "Josephine" (I20836)

468 According to family historian Asa W. Armington, Deliverence & Susanna both died of scarlet fever the same day. Armington, Susanna (I12752)

472 According to grandson Benjamin LeValley, Arthur was at the Battle of Quebec with General Arnold during the Revolutionary War. Fenner, Captain Arthur (I06200)

473 According to Greene, Frank L., "Descendants of Joseph Greene of Westerly, R.I." p. 277, Amelia Axca Greene m. Sheldon Remington. She died when her baby was a week old. Sheldon married again and lived in Mexico, NY as of 1894 when the book was published. Child by Amelia: Lella Eva Amelia; m. ________Crowfoot and res. in Syracuse in 1894.

In the 1850 Federal Censuses, Shelden Remington is age 25 NY, a constable (?), living with Joseph & Roxany Whitney at Mexico, Oswego Co., NY.

In the 1860 census there is an Ella Remington, age 5, living with Lydia Remington, Sheldon's mother, at Mexico, NY. This is probably Lella, Sheldon's daughter.

Also in 1860, Sheldon Reming, age 34 is living at Clay, Onondaga Co., NY. His wife, Elizabeth is age 28.

In 1870 Sheldon Remington is living at Palermo, Oswego Co., NY. His wife is Elizabeth and they have a son, Lee, age 8.

In 1880 the family is still at Palermo, NY. Sheldon "Reming" is age 54, Elizabeth is 46, and son Lee is 18.

Gravestone information available online from the Wellwood Cemetery, South Mexico, Oswego Co., NY.

Sheldon Remington is on a list of assistant collectors for 1859, Canal Collector's Office, Hungerford Block, Oswego, NY (Hancock's Directory Information, available online): "Remington Sheldon, ass't canal collector, boards Niagara House."

From a list of the "Names of Citizens, Who Assisted and Contributed Towards The Publication of the History of Oswego County, with Personal Statistics," in the History of Oswego County, N. Y., 1789

474 According to Greene, Frank L., "Descendants of Joseph Greene of Westerly, R.I." p. Greene, Amelia Axsa (I15334)

475 According to her death record, Hannah died at age 83 y 11 m 17 d, cause of death was "old age." It ways she was a widow, died in Blackstone, and was born in Jamestown, RI. Her parents are given as Tideman & Elizabeth Remington. In the 1870 Federal Census, Hannah Remington is age 78, widowed, and living at Blackstone, MA, with her daughter Sarah and family. Sarah & Mason DeWitt have four children in the household: Lizzie 15, Warren W. 12, Eva 10, & George B. 7. Remington, Hannah S. (I07818)

476 According to her death record, Rhoda died at age 58. Remington, Rhoda (I06446)

477 According to her father's notes, Sarah was born "Oct 3d on a Thursday morning about Break of Day 1695." Arnold, Sarah (I20732)

478 According to her father's will dated 1 Sept 1729, Hopestill (Smith) Northup had five children. I don't know whether she had children by both husbands.

Perhaps Joseph Northup, known as "Tailor Joe," 1700 - 1803 was a son. Or, perhaps one of the children was Sylvester Northup, who went to Exeter from North Kingstown, and was mentioned in the Exeter Town Council records on 12 Jan 1754, later being accepted as a resident on 12 Feb 1754. It is very possible that these are two of her children.

Although Hopestill is said to be the wife of Joseph Northup in the "RI Genealogical Register" Vol. 3, No. 1, p. 76, the Exeter Town Council records mention her as the widow of Henry Northup. Was this their mistake, or a transcriber's mistake? Or, she may have married Joseph, and later married Henry.

"Hopestill Northup, widow of Henry Northup late of North Kingstown dec., appeared in TC of Ex 9 Oct 1759 and swore that the last place of her lawful residence was in the town of North Kingstown; thus Ex TC declares that the town of NK is the last place of lawful residence of the said Hopestill Northup and TC therefore orders said Hopestill Northup to be forthwith sent out of the town of Ex and delivered to one of the overseers of the poor for the town of NK."

Other evidence that she may have been married to a Henry Northup is the following entry from the South Kingstown Town Council records: "13 April 1741 Henry Northup of North Kingstown petitioned TC SK that Phillis Smith late of SK died intestate . . . and that administration had not yet been granted . . . " (RIGR Vol. 17, p. 267), implying an interest in this estate.

The Henry referred to in this record may have just been a relative of her husband's, helping Hopestill with her mother's estate at this time. However, it seems that her brother-in-law had already died by then; at least, his will was recorded in 1740. But, the reference to Henry Northup of North Kingstown, who petitioned the South Kingstown Town Council, must refer either to Hopestill's brother-in-law, or to her deceased husband's nephew, also named Henry (unless there is another of the same name whom I haven't yet discovered). For the time being, I am assuming that it was the latter whom she married.
Smith, Hopestill (I13907)

479 According to her grandson, Sara Ann was called Hidee by everyone in the family. (email dated 12 Feb 2007) Remington, Sarah Ann (I08225)

480 According to her gravestone inscription, Lucinda died at age 73 y 8 m 9 d. Marble, Lucinda (I08370)

481 According to her gravestone, "Ruhamy" was the "only daughter of her parents." Coffin, Rualmy (I09847)

482 According to her gravestone, Cynthia died at age 76. Unknown, Cynthia (I19117)

483 According to her gravestone, Mary died at age 78 y 8 m. Hill, Mary (I27296)

484 According to her gravestone, Sarah died at age 72. Carr, Sarah Ann (I03600)

485 According to her gravestone, she was the second wife of Nelson. Remington, Robey Caroline (I11402)

486 According to her marriage record at Northbridge, MA, Cora was adopted by James M. & Sarah Remington. I am making an assumption that her adoptive parents were James Mussey & Sarah Kendrick Remington, because of the location.

However, I can't find her in the censuses with them.
Remington, Cora E. (I21533)

487 According to her marriage record, Cora was the adopted daughter of James M. Remington. Remington, Cora E. (I10312)

488 According to her obituary in The Pawtucket Times, Amanda was a long-time resident of Pawtucket and was well-known among its older residents. She was an active member of the Central Falls Congregational Church. At the time of her death, only 4 of her 11 chldren were still living: Louis G., Grace, Lillie, and Mabel. Hawes, Amanda Margaret (I26581)

489 According to her obituary, Ruby was educated at Friedens Lutheran School, and was a member of the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church. Hebard, Ruby U. (I21135)

490 According to her son Eli, Elizabeth lived to be at least age 94 (when he wrote his book "Genealogy of a Part of the Wodell Family" p 67 -- Google Books).

The death record at New Bedford names her as Elizabeth Wordell "Soule" and says she died of "old age" at age 94 y 9 mo.; her parents are identified as Nathaniel & Rebecca.

In the Federal Census of 1870, "Elisabeth Wordell" is age 83, living and "keeping house" in Fall River, MA. She is with her son Eli, age 65, a farmer.
Soule, Elizabeth (I24645)

491 According to his age in the 1930 census, Kenneth was born in May 1927. However, the Social Security Death Index says 1928. Woodman, Kenneth Warren (I20970)

492 According to his birth/death record, Thomas was "the first English child born in East Greenwich." (Spencer Thomas above died about 5 o'clock in the morning, and was the first English child born in E. Greenwich.)

He may have married again after the death of Elizabeth in 1742, to Elizabeth (Unknown) b. Sep 1688 - d. 13 May 1747, and a third time to Sarah Wanton b. 27 Apr 1696 (widow of Benjamin Howland).
Spencer, Thomas (I07507)

493 According to his brother Thomas's will of 11 Nov 1848, Joseph was living in Brighton, MI. Holden, Joseph W. (I17688)

494 According to his death record, he died at age 87 y 2 m 25 d. It identifies his birthplace as Newport, RI, and his parents as Gideon and Belinda Cornell.

Consequently, I am not absolutely sure Gardner belongs to this couple, but some of the names of his children suggest that he does, as well as a connection to Beaufort, SC. Compare the names of his sons with his uncle John J., and with his uncle's two sons. I am wondering if the informant at his death gave the incorrect name of his mother. Since he died in old age, as a widower, it is possible that the informant at the time did not remember his mother's name correctly.

It is also possible that his father Gideon was married twice, with Belinda being a second wife.

In the 1850 Federal Census, the family is at Edgartown, MA: Gardner T. Cornell 52 born Newport, RI; Mary 59 born Edgartown; Gideon 26 Ed. mariner; Enoch C. 23 Ed. painter; William G. 20 Ed. ship carpenter; George B. 17 Ed. laborer; Velma Coffin 64 Ed.
Cornell, Gardner Thurston (I27582)

495 According to his death record, Theophilus died of old age. Blackmar, Theophilus (I27623)

496 According to his father's will of December 1714, Ebenezer was the second son, and had received land in Scituate. Slocum, Ebenezer (I01368)

497 According to his father's will, John had two sons, John & William, and five daughters. Smith, John (I13948)

498 According to his father's will, Samuel was the eldest son, and had received land in Scituate.

Only two of Samuel's children, Ebenezer & Mary, were mentioned in the 1729 will of Samuel's mother, Mary (Thurston) Slocum.

Some online genealogies include two other children for Samuel: William & Maria.
Slocum, Samuel (I01365)

499 According to his gravestone inscription, Isaac died at age 63. Manchester, Isaac (I01785)

500 According to his gravestone inscription, John Gould was a veteran of the Revolutioanry War. Gould, John (I25845)
