| Jesse (or Mason) was "of Alford, of Stephentown, NY" (Shepard Collection). His full name has been given elsewhere as as Jesse Mason or Jesse Mason Gainsman (BSR). The name Jesse Mason is found in some of the early censuses in western MA. However, the estate documents of Allen Remington mention Betsey's husband as both Mason M. Greenman and Jesse M. Greenman. Obituary (source: Rootsweb's Worldconnect): JESSE M. GREENMAN - Another of Potter County's heroes has passed away. Jesse M. Greenman died in Hebron December 18th in the 83rd year of his age. Born in Town of Stephenson, Rensselaer county, NY, February 23, 1796, and moved into Hebron, Potter County, PA, 48 years ago. He lived about two years on the lot now owned by Chas. Gorham. In December 1832, he contracted for one hundred acres of unimproved farming land, where he made it his home till he died. He built a log cabin and moved on to the land the same month. Raised a family of seven children, four boys and three girls, and cleared up fifty acres of land at the same time. Gave liberally to support of the church and gave time and money to the Temperance and the anti-slavery causes. IN 1836 he helped organize the first Seventh Day Baptist Church of Potter County; was one of the charter members, and faithful and energetic in its support. Was a pledged Temperance man from the day he moved into the County to the day of his death. The next year after he came to this County, in 1831, he was one of the men who pledged the whole of Crandall Hill Settlement to Nelson Clark to help raise his saw-mill without whiskey. The pledge was kept and the mill was raised without whiskey; but, we are sorry to say, Coudersport and Lymansville furnished no aid to Mr. Clark in his noble work. Mr. Greenman gave up the management of his farm to his sons several years ago, but continued to look after his orchard and a fruit garden with great success until August last, since which time he has been a great sufferer from a disease of the heart, preventing him from lying down, except twice, for a half hour each time. We have been intimately acquainted with Mr. Greenman since 1841 and we count it a great privilege to have associated with so true and steadfast an advocate of the right. (J. S. Mann) | Greenman, Jesse Mason (I09617)

| Jesse Remington is in the 1820 Federal Census at Merrimack, Hillsborough Co., NH. I have made an assumption that he is this particular Jesse Remington because his (assumed) wife Elizabeth is buried in Merrimack. If so, however, there are 4 males in the household and 5 females, which means that this must have included extended family. | Remington, Jesse Jr. (I14046)

| Joanna was "of Cranston, RI." In a letter handwritten by her brother Benjamin, he mentions that she was the wife of Caleb Remington of Johnston, and says that she died there at home in 1876. Her sons John & Andrew, and her daughter Joanna, continued to live in the family home throughout their adult lives. In the 1860 Federal Census, Joanna Remington is age 60 and living at Johnston, RI. With her are the following family members: John 38, Andrew R. 36, Caleb 34, Benjamin L. 32, Christopher W. 29, Joanna 24, & William 60. I think this last individual is William Warner Remington, son of John & Sally (Paine) Remington, and thus a nephew of Joanna's husband. However, four of these sons are listed in CA in the 1860 census at Little York, Nevada Co. See notes for them. In the 1870 Federal Census, Joanna Remington is age 70 and living at Johnston, RI. In the household are several of her children, three grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law. According to Joanna's gravestone, she died at age 76 years, 6 months, 28 days. | LeValley, Joanna (I06187)

| Job Lake was "of Tiverton." | Lake, Job (I26399)
| Job was "of Exeter." His will mentions stepmother Elizabeth, so it is not known who his mother is. "Doc Job Tripp" is mentioned in the Exeter Town Records of 19 June 1759. The will of Job Tripp of Exeter, yeoman, is dtd 18 Dec 1779, prvd 6 May 1782. Besides his "mother-in-law" (stepmother) Elizabeth, he mentions 5 sons: Peleg, Charles, Pedigreene, Benjamin, and Ezekiel; and 5 dtrs: Mehitable Green, Sarah Weight, Anna Mosher, Mary Weeden, and Phebe Boss; also two grandsons, Job Tripp; and Pedigreene Tripp s/o son Pedigreene. | Tripp, Job Jr. (I01497)
| Job was "of North Kingstown." Job's first wife (name unknown) was the mother of some or all of his children. His will, written when he was "well stricken in years" (no date) mentions his wife Elizabeth and the following children: Job, Isaac, William, Benoni, Abiel, Mehitabel (Thomas), Ann (Moon), Mary (Dawley), Phebe (Rice), Abigail (Greene), & Deborah (Spink); also, grandson Isaac son of Isaac. Job Tripp was made a citizen of Newport in 1726. He was a deputy at the General Assembly from North Kingstown from 1734 to 1738. | Tripp, Job Sr. (I06143)

| Job was a son of William Durfee. | Durfee, Job (I15516)
| Job's name is spelled as Job Herrington in the Exeter town records. He is mentioned in the records many times, such as during the years 1743, 1745, 1746, 1758, 1762, 1767, and 1772. He is called Capt. Job. Herrington at least once. His son is referred to as Job Herrington, Jr. His will, dated 16 Nov 1775 at Exeter, RI, identifies him as aged, and a yeoman. Some genealogies give his birth date as 16 Oct 1701, in Kingstown, RI. This may be accurate, but needs verification. I have made an assumption that the same Job Herrington/Harrington married Lydia Fones, Alice Wightman/Whitman, and Elizabeth (unknown). This is a reasonable assumption because Lydia, who married Job Herrington, died very young. Also, one of Job's daughters was named Lydia, and it was customary to name a child after a deceased spouse. I don't know whether any one of the children was born to the first wife, but it seems unlikely, since Lydia Wilcox is mentioned as a granddaughter in the will of John Wightman, and also Job, Jr. had a son named Whitman. Consequently, I have estimated the children's birth years as if they all were born of Alice & Elizabeth. (needs more research) Job's ancestral line may come from James Hearnden/Herrington, b.c.1592, who came to America from England. However, a notation in an Arnold manuscript says, "Job Harrington from England settled in Exeter, RI; he had a son Job and grandson Whitman Harrington." An alternative view has this Job's parents as Job b.1683 & Martha (Weeden) Harrington; the father Job was supposedly the third son of Joseph & Sarah Harrington; and Joseph was a son of Benjamin b.c.1618, d.1687, a "religious refugee" who came to RI from MA, and who married Elizabeth White, d/o of William & Elizabeth White of Boston. This Benjamin had 6 sons, including Joseph; the 4th son was John, known as "John of Scituate," who lived near Bennett Hill in Scituate, RI. (see James N. Arnold's manuscript notebooks titled "Family Notes" at the Knight Memorial Library, Elmwood Ave., Providence, RI) | Harrington, Job I (I12274)

| Job's second wife was Ruth Stone. | Whipple, Job (I25346)
| Job's will dated 25 Feb 1746, proved 2 July 1753, mentions his eldest son Robert, youngest son Job, his "well-beloved wife " Mehitabell, and nephews Caleb -- son of brother Robert, and Caleb -- son of brother Caleb (these are our ancestors). Among other provisions, Job gives freedom to his "Negro man, Jack," along with three whole suits of apparel. All his Negro servants are to be set free after the decease of his wife, son Job, and his descendants. He also provided for relief of the poor of the church in Newport to which he belonged. The executors were Joseph Sanford, shopkeeper; Elisha Shearman, mariner; and Gardner Thurston, cooper. | Carr, Job (I01327)
