| Joseph & Sarah Hull lived on Jamestown, an island of Rhode Island. In the 1850 Federal Census, Joseph & Sarah R. Hull, ages ages 34 & 33, have two children: Alfred G. 5, & Phebe C. 10 months. The family is living at Jamestown. In the 1860 Federal Census, Joseph & Sarah R. Hull, both 43, are still at Jamestown with four children in the household: Alfred G. 14, Charles 9, Edward 4, & Oliver A. 3. Phebe C. Hull is age 10, working as a domestic and living in the home of John & Lucy Gardner. In 1870, Phebe is 20 and living with her parents, but the other children are elsewhere. Oliver R. is age 13, working as a farm laborer and living with George & Sarah Carr; Charles G. is also a farm laborer, age 19, living with the family of Benjamin Cottrell; Edward is age 14, also working as a farm laborer and living with John & Lucy Gardner. An Alfred Hull, age 26, is working as a farm laborer at Cranston, RI, living with the Rodney F. Dyer household; this may be Joseph & Sarah's oldest son. In 1880, Joseph & Sarah R. Hull are both 63, and daughter Phebe is age 30, living with, along with grandson Frederick R. Hull, 4. | Hull, Joseph (I04671)

| Joseph Coleman and Elizabeth Slack were married on July 11, 1870, at St. John's Church, Mansfield, Nottingham. Joseph's occupation is given as a frame work knitter; Elizabeth's is spinster. Witnesses on the certificate were John Adcock and Sarah Adcock. Sarah (b. 1843) was Elizabeth's sister, and John was Sarah's wife; they married April 16, 1865, also at St. John's. Notes on St. John's Anglican Church taken from "A History of The Parish Church of Saint John the Evangelist" by E. W. Mellors: The church was erected in 1855/56. The building consists of a chancel, nave, two side aisles, and an 80-foot tower. The spire is about 100 feel high. Mansfield stone was used in the main building, and Ancaster stone for the spire. The foundation stone was laid by the Bishop of Lincoln on 6th Jan 1855, and the church was consecrated 29th July 1856. The seating accommodates 1,000 people. The lovely east window illustrates scenes from the life of Our Lord. Its cost was defrayed by the congregation and friends, and it was put in position in 1870. The organ was placed in the church in 1865, and restored in 1897. It is an excellent example of tone and workmanship. I have visited this church and photographed it. There is a friendly and vital Christian community worshipping there now, as of 2004. | Family F00089

| Joseph G. Johnson witnessed the Warwick will of Desire Burton, singlewoman, formerly of Cranston, dated 1 Sep 1853. The two other witnesses were Joshua A. Johnson & Stacy W. Remington. In the Federal Census of 1850, the family is living at Cranston: Josehp G. 34 Town Clerk, Mary A. 36, Charles E. 13, Martha A. 10, Sarah E. 8, Mary E. 5, Harriet 3, and Joseph G. 1. Also in the household are Thomas Burgess 50 and Allen J. Tibbetts 27. In 1860 the family is still at Cranston: Joseph G. 44, Mary A. 46, Mary E. 16, Joseph G. 11, Allen T. 8 (possibly named after Allen Tibbetts listed in 1850), Harriet 6 (probably the older Harriet had died); and Rachel Stevens 90. It is interesting to note that Charles Remington's brother Daniel married an Alice Stevens -- is there a connection? In 1870 they are at Providence: Joseph G. Johnston 54 real estate broker, Mary A. 56, Joseph G. Jr. 21, Allen T. 18; and Barbary Scott 75. In 1880 they are back in Cranston. It appears that son Allen T. is married and his wife and young daughter are in the household; also married daughter Mary E. Donaldson and her husband Wm. Married son Charles E. appears to be next door with his family. | Johnson, Joseph Gardiner (I16583)
| Joseph inherited house and land from his father. | Dennis, Joseph (I22380)
| Joseph is mentioned in the 1807 will of his grandfather, Enoch Remington, as the son of deceased daughter Mercy Armington. However, he is not mentioned in the book "The Armington Family in America," nor is his father's second wife, Marcy. | Armington, Joseph (I05148)
| Joseph is mentioned in the will dated 18 May 1774 of his grandfather Joseph Fenner, of Cranston. | Fenner, Joseph (I13580)
| Joseph is not listed with Remingtons in the 1830 Federal Census at MA, so probably the family moved from RI to MA between 1830 and 1833. In the 1840 Federal Census for Dartmouth, Bristol County, MA, there is a Joseph Remington as head of a household with 2 white males under age 5, 1 white male 5-10, 1 white male 40-50, 1 white female 5-10, 2 white females 10-15, and one white female 30-40. This is very likely our Joseph, but one of the older girls is missing in 1850 -- has either died or moved out. In the 1850 Federal Census, New Bedford, MA, the family is on p. 345. The household includes: Joseph 50, Mary 43, Alice 23, Caroline 17, Edmund 15, Wm. S. 13, Jane C. 10 (should be James), Lucy J. 8, Emma 4, & Eleanor H. 2 mos. In 1860 they are on p. 681, without Joseph. The death record for Joseph identifies his parents as Thomas & Alice, and gives his birthplace as Tiverton, RI. He died at age 43 of a tumor. The place of death was 10 Bedford St. | Remington, Joseph (I05159)
| Joseph Kent was a representative from Swansea to the Massachusetts General Court for many years. I am not sure which of his wives was the mother of his children. The data in the Kent book is inconclusive. | Kent, Ensign Joseph Jr. (I12803)
| Joseph lived in Worcester, MA, & Branford, CT. His wife Alcy was from Cumberland, RI. | Remington, Joseph (I05234)
| Joseph may be a son of Joseph and a first wife named Phebe. | Hopkins, Joseph (I06064)
| Joseph Remington is in the 1880 Federal Census at Jersey, Licking County, Ohio. He is age 70, b. NY, a widower, and living alone but near Amos Remington and family. It says his father was born in RI and his mother in NY. | Remington, Joseph (I10120)
| Joseph W. Remington is mentioned as a seventeen-year-old son in 1820 when Anthony Remington listed his children. In 1854 Joseph W. was one of Anthony's surviving children, and at that time was of Portage Co., OH. In the 1850 Federal Census, Joseph W. Remington is living in Freedom, Portage Co., OH. He is a carpenter, age 46. His wife Elizabeth is 58; they have two daughters: Samantha 24 and Cornelia E. 7. I am wondering if Cornelia is really their biological daughter; I think she may be Samantha's (see notes below for 1860 census). In the 1860 Federal Census, Joseph W. & Elizabeth Remington are living at Richmond, Ashtabula Co., OH. They are ages 57 & 64, both b MA. They are living with Nathan & Samantha Hall, ages 33 & 34, and their daughter Elizabeth, 16. Samantha was born in MA. I think Elizabeth age 16 is Cornelia E. in the 1850 census. | Remington, Joseph W. (I08806)

Had been member of council several years and colonel of Scituate Regiment 15 years; Feb. 27, 1825. The will of Joseph Knight of Scituate, yeoman, is dated 6 June 1817, proved 11 Apr 1825. It mentions wife Elizabeth; sons Ezra, Darius, George, & Angell; dtrs Ziplha Potter & Martha Knight. | Knight, Col. Joseph (I26601)
| Joseph was in Nova Scotia in 1761. | Bailey, Joseph (I00882)
| Joseph was in the Revolutionary War. I am making an assumption that Ensign Joseph Cornell, whose grave is in the Cornell-Briggs Lot in East Greenwich, is the father of Mary Martin (Cornell) Briggs, also buried there. Joseph had one child with his first wife, Sarah Potter, and nine children with his second, Ruth Baker. (note from Violet Kettelle in RI Cemetery Database) | Cornell, Ensign Joseph (I06240)
| Joseph was of West Greenwich. This date of death is from the Providence VRs. However, I have not confirmed that it belongs to this particular Joseph Hopkins. | Hopkins, Joseph (I14945)
| Joseph was s/o Jesse Leland of Johnston, RI (source: "The Leland Magazine," p 162, Google Books). | Leland, Joseph (I23689)
| Joseph was s/o Lawrence & Mary Turner. (source: The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol 160 Jul 2006 p 215) Joseph's child by his first wife: Abigail b c1747. Joseph's children by his second wife: Sarah b c1756 md John Gardner; Mary b c1759 md John Jakways (Jaquez); Hannah b 22 Feb 1761 md Seth Yates; Ruth b c1765. | Turner, Joseph (I06038)
| Joseph's birth is recorded at Hartland Town Hall: "Joseph son to Joseph Remington by Catherine his wife. Born to him Nov the 19th, 1784, Recorded January the 14th, 1785 by Elias Weld Town Clerk." (research by Harry & Cathie Kivler) | Remington, Joseph III (I10320)
| Joseph's death record says he died at age 56y 11 m 14d, and names his parents as Joseph and Polly. In the 1840 census Joseph and family are at Dartmouth, MA: 1 FWM 5-9, 1 FWM 20-29, 1 FWF <5, 1 FWF 20-29. One individual is "employed in the navigation of the ocean." I am assuming this family group included the first wife, Maria Hazard. In the 1850 census, the Joseph Rounds family is at Rehoboth, MA: Joseph 38 MA, Elisabeth 29 MA. Herbert F. 5 MA, Eugene B. 3 MA, Julia A. 10 mos. In the 1855 MA state census, the household at Rehoboth includes: Joseph 43, Elizabeth A. 31, Herbert A. 11, Eugene B. 9, Julia A. 6; also with them or next to them are Simeon and Nancy Rounds, ages 73 and 63. I have determined that this Simeon (1782-1860) is likely a son of Simeon (1755-1831, s/o Jabez and Renew) and Anna Rounds. It seems that Simeon Jr. was married two or three times, his first wife being Clarissa, by whom he had at least 5 daughters and two sons, one being Marcus T. Rounds b1805, the executor of Simeon's estate. The probate documents mention that his family property borders on that of Joseph Rounds in Rehoboth. However, I haven't found a close family connection, and I haven't researched Jabez yet. | Rounds, Joseph Jr. (I28753)
| Joseph's death record says he was born in Tiverton, occupation mariner, and names his parents as Alfred and Sarah Rounds, also born in Tiverton. He died of paralysis at age 77y 5m 2d. This agrees with his birth date. Although his birth record is listed in the New Bedford transcriptions, all other records agree that Joseph was born in RI. In the 1820 census, the family is at Tiverton, RI: FWM 3<10, 1 26-44; FWF 2<10, 1 26-44. In the 1830 census, there is only one Rounds family listed at Dartmouth, MA. This is the family of Joseph Rounds: FWM 2 15-19, 1 40-49; FWF 1<5, 1 5-9, 1 10-14, 1 30-39. In the 1840 census, the family of Joseph Rounds at Dartmouth, MA, is as follows (there are 2 Joseph Rounds families in in that census): FWM 1<5, 1 5-9, 1 20-29, 1 50-59; FWF 1 10-14, 1 15-19, 1 20-29, 1 40-49. One person is employed in the navigation of the ocean. In the 1850 federal census, the family is still at Dartmouth: Joseph 65 RI farmer, Mary 56 RI, Mary 29 RI, Abby E. 20 MA, Andrew 19 MA sailor, David C. 13. In the 1855 MA state census, the family is still at Dartmouth: Joseph 70 farmer, Mary 61, David 19 farmer. In the 1860 federal census, the family is at Dartmouth as follows: Joseph 75 RI laborer, Mary 66 RI, David 23 MA. The post office for them was North Dartmouth. I have found the likely location where they lived, based on an 1852 map which shows them living on Slocum Rd. near the corner of what is now Sharp St., in North Dartmouth. The daughter in the 1820 census has been found to be Sarah, listed as one of Joseph's children in his probate records. A probate document dated 15 Oct 1868 (found online and shared by Dulcie Stewart) is for Joseph Rounds "who last dwelt in Dartmouth" and died on 6 Aug 1862, "leaving a widow, whose name is Mary Rounds (since deceased)"; lists next of kin, all surname Rounds except one: John of Dartmouth, Mary A. of Dartmouth, Abby E. also of Dartmouth, Sarah A. Tripp widow of Godfrey R. Tripp (deceased) of New Bedford, Charles A. "last known of the Feegee Islands now supposed to be dead," David C. of Wheelen Michigan, Joseph Jr. "supposed to be dead as he has not been heard from in twenty years, all the above are children of said deceased." The executor of the estate was Isaac H. Coe. The document was signed by John Rounds, Sarah A. Tripp, and Mary A. Rounds. (Thanks to Cousin Dulcie for finding the image of this document; accessible at americanancestors.org) | Rounds, Joseph (I00771)

| Joseph's marriage to Elizabeth Church was his second. | Rosbotham, Joseph (I17499)
| Joseph's middle name was probably Remington. | Brayton, Joseph R. (I25230)
| Joseph's parents may be Edward Simmons (c 1784) & Patience Macomber (b 29 Dec 1783 Ti, d 2 Aug 1869 Br, d/o Joshua & Patience). | Simmons, Joseph (I21343)
| Joseph's second wife was the widow of Thomas Remington of Coventry. | Manchester, Joseph (I05571)
| Joseph's will dated 8 Sep 1808 at Coventry, mentions his wife, Anna; sons Samuel, William, Esek, Peleg, Pardon, Christopher, Freeborn, & Lawton; and daughters Naomi Capwell & Marcy Johnson. I have roughly estimated the birth years of the children. | Johnson, Joseph (I11445)
| Joseph's will mentions his wife, Ann (transcription only -- I have not seen the original). Grandson Robert Knight Remington did name one of his daughters Alice. | Unknown, Alcey or Ann (I19549)
