5201 Joseph's will mentions the names of his children and one granddaughter. RATHBONE, Joseph (I03970)

5202 Joseph's will mentions wife Mary; sons Joseph, John, Asa, and Russel; and daughters Mary, Elizabeth, and Amy Bennett, and Tabitha Burlingame; will dated 24 Feb 1816 at Warwick, probated 10 Aug 1835 (viewable at ancestry.com). Bennett, Joseph (I02839)

5203 Joseph's will, dated 1735, mentions his wife Martha; 6 sons -- Joseph (Jr.), William, Samuel (b. 6 Jan 1704, d. 1790), John, Robert, & Thomas; and 3 daughters -- Phebe (Pitcher), Hannah, & Martha.

He may have married first to a Phebe Unknown.

I have estimated the birth years of some of Joseph's children.

Interestingly, there was another Joseph Hopkins whose will was proved/probated 1 Sept. 1740 at Scituate, RI. He also mentions a wife Martha.

An online genealogy has his parents as William & Hannah (Andrews) Hopkins of Roxbury, MA. However, the RI Genealogical Register, Vol. 15, p. 303, identifies his parents as Thomas & Sarah. (needs more research)
Hopkins, Joseph (I10058)

5204 Joseph's will, dated 5 February 1718/19, mentions his mother Mary (living), son Elisha who has a son Joseph, and brothers Stephen, Josiah, William, James, and sister Barbary. Arnold, Joseph (I03936)

5205 Joseph's will, dated 7 Jul 1750 at Scituate and proved 24 Aug 1750, mentions wife Mary, son Jonathan, and daughters Mary Ralph and Susanna (Lurana?) Knight. Knight, Joseph (I27083)

5207 Joshua A. Johnson witnessed the Warwick will of Desire Burton, singlewoman, formerly of Cranston, dated 1 Sep 1853. The two other witnesses were Joseph G. Johnson & Stacy W. Remington. Johnson, Joshua Allen (I16570)

5208 Joshua died at about 43 years old. Remington, Joshua I (I07155)

5209 Joshua was a Captain in the 1st Johnston Co., 1788; purchased land in Glen's Tract, Herkimer Co., NY, 1792.

He is listed in the 1777 Military Census at Johnston, RI, along with his father Joshua and brother Stephen.

Joshua and Anne Remington signed the following deeds at Johnston:
p 83; 6 Nov 1790
Joshua Remington of Johnston Esq received 36 L 6 shillings from Charles Dyer of Cranston for "the northerly part of a tract of land that I bought of John C. Greene" also grants a privilege to pass thro Caleb Remington's land to and from the road that leads to Providence with teams; land sold by me to Caleb Remington on or about 4 Aug 1788.
Signed by Joshua and Anne Remington

p 105, 106; 23 Mar 1791
Joshua Remington of Johnston received 94 L 10 shillings 6 pence from David Knap of Warwick for 20 acres, the southerly part of homestead farm of Joshua Remington late of Johnston dec'd. Signed by Joshua and Anne Remington
Remington, Joshua Jr. (I08838)

5210 Joshua was born at Prudence Island, according to an SAR application for Charles Edwin Allen. Allen, Joshua (I25806)

5211 Josiah & John were twins.

The DAR Patriot Index has his date of birth as 4 Feb 1746.

He may be the Josiah Remington in the 1790 census at Westfield, Hampshire Co., MA. David Remington is listed with him -- possibly a nephew, son of Daniel II. Also in the same town is Jabez Remington, possibly a brother or cousin.

The 1810 Federal Census in NY lists Josiah & Sinecer Rimmington at Cambridge, Washington Co. Seneca is possibly the son of Daniel II (not confirmed), and if true, would be Josiah's nephew.

The 1810 Federal Census for Cambridge, Washington Co., NY, has three Remington families or heads of families: Jabez, Josiah, & Severa (Seneca). Josiah and Jabez are listed together. Perhaps that is this particular Josiah (age 45+ in the census), and Jabez is Jabal, his son (age 26-44). These family groups need more research.
Remington, Josiah (I03464)

5212 Josiah & Ruth had 7 children. Armington, Josiah (2) (I12754)

5213 Josiah Arnold is mentioned as a grandson under age 21 in the 12 Aug 1732 will of William Gardner; also in the will of his grandmother Abigail (Remington) (Gardner) Almy dated 3 April 1762 Arnold, Josiah (I20683)

5217 Josiah was mentioned in the will dated 5 Feb 1718/19 of his uncle Joseph Arnold. He is identified as a son of William (of Israel & Mary [Barker] Arnold).

BSR says Josiah's parents were William & Christine Arnold. A genealogy at Rootsweb's Worldconnect has his parents as William Arnold & Hannah Nichols. Since there were several Josiah Arnolds, it is confusing, and Maplet's husband may be one of the others of the same name.
Arnold, Captain Josiah (I11084)

5218 Josias Nottage & Sarah Rainger (Int. reads Ranger) Married By Dr. Timo. Cutler Presn. on Aug. 15, 1731 Family F06209

5225 Judith is mentioned as wife in Henry's will. The marriage is mentioned in Torrey's Marriages; probably married by 1701. Peckham, Judith (I27846)

5226 Judith is mentioned in the will of her father, Jeremiah Ellis: his will, dated 29 May 1769, proved in WG 27 July 1771, mentions wife Priscilla in terms that suggest she was at least a second wife. He named sons Ayres Ellis, Gideon Ellis, William Ellis, and Jeremiah Ellis; and daughters Judeath Austin, apparently wife of Robert Austin, and Tabitha Wait. Grandson Augustus Ellis was the son of Ayres Ellis. Other grandchildren were Rufus and Gideon Ellis, sons of Gideon, grandson Wait Ellis, granddaughters Sarah Strait, Alce Wait, and Ellen Wood (WG Wills, 2:112-116). Ellis, Judith (I24520)

5227 Judith Manchester is mentioned in the will of her father, William, dated 29 May 1843. Durfee, Judith (I17890)

5228 Judith's three children are mentioned in the 19 Dec 1788 will of her father, John Gifford. By that time Judith was deceased; Ephraim is mentioned as under 21, and daughters Zilla & Judith are under 18. Gifford, Judith (I01757)

5231 Julia died from appendicitis at age 9. Nikolaisen, Julia (I00430)

5232 Julia may have been John's second wife (?).

In the 1860 Federal Census, Julia Remington age 50 NY is living at Perkins, Erie Co., OH. John is not listed anywhere that I can see. With her are Jacob Nichols 38 PA, as well as Albert & Charles Nichols, 16 & 13 OH.
Unknown, Julia (I20696)

5233 Julia was the only one of the siblings to remain single.

Dad Remington was told that it was this "Aunt Julia" (his father Chester's aunt, and sister of grandmother Angeretta) whose favorite name was Norman, and thus he was named Norman in 1918.
Whitford, Julia Erespa (I00147)

5234 Julia's maiden name as Pickard was given to me by Nancy Olejniczak.

In the Federal Census of 1900, Julia Remington is a widow age 80, living at Camillus, Onondaga Co., NY, with son Charles 42. According to the census data, Julia has had two children. I am not sure about this. Could Lewis have had a previous marriage? This needs more research.

In 1880 J. L. & Emma M. Remington, ages 41 & 34, are at Washington, Wayne Co., Iowa. Their niece Mary E. Remington, age 10, is with them; she is probebly Mariett, daughter of Alpheus & Elizabeth.

In the 1900 Federal Census, Justin is age 60 and living at Richman, Wayne, IA. His wife Emma is 54.

5243 Katrine's mother died within the year after Katrine was born. Her father remarried in 1892. Trine loved her father very much and he was particularly fond of her, too. At one of his places of employment, she would bring him his lunch. She also loved her step-mother, Kirstine, and cried when she received the news in America that she had died.

After Trine's grandmother on her mother's side died, the grandfather married again. He was a very good carpenter -- a builder -- but Trine saw him only occasionally. The step--grandmother lived on Mols, and Trine went there frequently to visit and spend vacation days.
