5551 | Mercy Burlingame was a widow when she married Thomas Manchester. | Burlingame, Mercy (I03678)
|
5552 | Mercy is a 5th-generation Mayflower descendant, through her mother Hannah (Church) Boomer. I am not sure if this birth date for Mercy is correct -- needs more research (source: Rootsweb's Worldconnect). "The Luther Genealogy" p. 188 says she was born 16 Nov 1694. Mercy is mentioned as Mary (or Marcy?) Luther in the will of her brother, Joshua Boomer. He also mentions his sister Mary Elsbree, so it is clear these are two sisters. Mercy was executor of her husband's will as of 1 Apr 1755. It appears that she died before 2 Nov 1756, as a document of that date appoints Elisha Mason of Swansea to be executor of Nathaniel's will, as his widow/executor Mercy Luther has since died. A Jan 1759 document refers to a legacy she and her husband had left for the care of their daughter Hannah, who is "non compos." | BOOMER, Mercy (I19671)

Abby wrote many letters to her parents and brothers during the late 1850s and 1860s. Her letters were full of love for her family, dedication to her job, and passion for patriotism. Calling her brothers Jim & Ben, she often chided them for not writing to her more often, saying she was worried about them when she didn't hear from them. These personal and poignant letters, which include much about the Civil War era, can be viewed at the archives of the RI Historical Society Library. She died at age 41. According to "Isaac Willey of New London, Conn., and his descendants," by Henry Willey, p. 81, Mary Remington died at age 77. This agrees exactly with her birth year as 1763. TheLippitt Burial Ground, in which are still to be found the uninscribed graves of Moses, and probably his father as well, is situated in a pasture southeast of the road and a quarter of a mile east of the Quaker meeting house at Old Warwick. | Lippitt, Moses (I05710)

5591 | Moses's family Bible was purchased in Savannah, GA, 21 December 1818. Moses and family resided at Troupville and later moved to Valdosta when that town was started on land near the railroad. At one time he was a business associate of Capt. W. H. Briggs, a son of Dr. Henry Briggs & his wife Catherine (Converse). The Smith & Briggs lots at the Valdosta Cemetery, Sunset Hill, adjoin each other. Capt. Briggs had a son who died in infancy, named Moses, after Moses Smith. | Smith, Moses Sr. (I10705)

5593 | Most of the information in these notes and data on Obadiah, his wife Esther, and son Seth W. came from "John Browne, Gentleman of Plymouth" by George Tilden Brown. However, in this book George says that Seth W. is their only child; but the RI Death Index identifies Delaney (Brown) Remington as daughter of Obadiah & Esther. Family names bear this out as accurate. Obadiah was made a freeman of Sterling, CT, 10 Apr 1791. On 11 Oct 1796 he was referred to as "of Swansea" when he conveyed land in Swansea, MA, to Samuel Luther. On 6 Feb 1803 he was "of Sterling, CT" when he conveyed other land in Swansea, MA, to the same Samuel Luther. I believe this was probably the Samuel Luther who was Obadiah's brother-in-law, husband of sister Rebekah. Obadiah's wife Esther signed both of the above deeds. Obadiah shows up in town records of Sterling, CT, between 1805 and 1812, including a sale on 1 Aug 1811 to Seth W. Brown of Sterling. Also, on 21 Nov 1815 there were two deeds signed by Obadiah & Esther. These refer to John Wood; also to Seth Wood, late of Swansea. Esther is identified as one of Seth's heirs, along with Miller Wood, a son. | Brown, Obadiah (I12414)
