6007 | Probably Joanna's husband was of the Tanner family of Rhode Island, as was Esther Tanner, who married John Wellwood. John & Esther's son James married Sally, Joanna's sister. See notes for James A. Wellwood and Esther Tanner, elsewhere on this family tree. I am wondering if Joanna was widowed young, or divorced. She appears to be the Joanna Remington in the 1850 census, age 40, living with James & Sally Wellwood and family at Oswego, NY. If so, Sally is Joanna's sister. Joanna's age is off about 8 years -- not uncommon for a woman's age in the census. (Joanna needs more research.) | Remington, Joanna (I08976)
6008 | Probably Josiah married his first cousin. Elizabeth was very likely the daughter of his uncle Elisha Arnold. The marriage record names the fathers of both Josiah & Elizabeth.. | Arnold, Josiah (I03945)
6009 | Probably this was the Sylvester Northup who moved to Exeter from North Kingstown, and was mentioned in the Exeter Town Council records on 12 Jan 1754, being summoned to appear at the next meeting to account for his residence in town. At the next meeting he was accepted as a resident of Exeter, on 12 Feb 1754. This signifies that he must have had some means of livlihood, or else he would have been sent back to North Kingstown. He may have been a son of Joseph Northup, c1665 - 1726, who married Hopestill Smith; or he may be a son of Henry Northup, who was born c1688 - 1741-59. This Henry may have married Mary Eldred and/or Hopestill (Smith) Northup, widow of Joseph. The names of Sylvester's children were obtained from genealogy notes belonging to Adeline King, but need research to confirm. I have not been able to find any definitive data on this family, other than my notes above. It has been suggested that Sylvester II may have been orphaned or for some other reason raised by relatives, possibly Gideon & Avis Northup. | Northup, Sylvester I (I13988)

Her three sons and their families are with her and/or next door. | Bell, Prudence (I22617)

6049 | Rebecca is listed on the membership list of the Congregational Church, Bristol, RI, as of 22 May 1785. The will of Rebecca Munro, widow, dated 16 May 1826, mentions her deceased father Richard Smith, sons Josiah & Jeremiah (dec'd), and daughters Mary & Rebecca (widow of Benjamin Munro). There seems to be some confusion about the actual date of death. The "RI Genealogical Register," Vol. 13, p. 242 says 3 Nov 1827, while the RI Cemetery Database records her date of death from the gravestone as 31 May 1827. However, her will was proved 7 Jan 1827.
