| According to the marriage record, Sarah A. Remington, d/o Thomas & Rosetta, was age 18 when she married Gideon in 1857. This would make her birth year c1838, which does not agree with census data. For example, in 1860 her age is given as 28. | Remington, Sarah Amanda (I06487)

| According to the Northup-Hazard Family Bible, Stephen died at age 77. (see RI Roots magazine, Vol. 32. No. 4, Dec 2006) Stephen's will mentions his wife Mary, and the following children: Thomas, Henry, Nicholas, Abigail (Watson), Mary (Watson), Mercy (Allen), & Patience (Hazard). If there were other children, they must have died before his will was written. For instance, some genealogies list a son Stephen, the oldest, in this family group. The will also mentions some grandchildren, including three with the surname Card. So, either there was another daughter who had already died, or else one of the three daughters was previously married to a Mr. Card. | Northup, Stephen Jr. (I13522)

| According to the private journal of Elder Peleg Burroughs of Tiverton, a Minister of the Gospel, "on the 8th day of September A. D. 1780 -- Preached at B. Hambly's upon Psalm 107:31 (O that men would praise xc) married John Manchester to M.F. and stayed all night at Bro. Davenports." Benjamin Hambly's wife was Elizabeth Fish, probably related to Mary (needs more research). | Family F07184

| According to the Remington chart by Boyd Scott Remington at RIHSL, this Matthew Remington was Captain of the 1st Cranston Company in 1763. Genealogist Martha A. Benns' book "Remington Family" has this Matthew (who married Martha Randall) as a son of Thomas & Mary (Allen) Remington; a Matthew is named in Thomas's will. However, it seems more likely that the earlier Matthew married Hepsibah Blackington (please see the notes for the other Matthew, who was "of Warwick"). An online genealogy has no parents noted for this one, but has his birth date as 12 September 1724 (source noted is "Descendants of William Randall") -- needs further research. He is possibly the Mathew Rimenton listed as a resident of Coventry in the RI 1774 census (1 WM>16, 4 WM<16, 2 WF>16, 2 WF<16); also the Matthew Remmington 16 - 50 A, listed at West Greenwich, RI, in the 1777 RI Military Census. The 1774 census data suggests that Matthew may have had four sons (?) born before 1774 in addition to two daughhters. If this marriage to Martha Randall is a third marriage for the "other" Matthew, s/o Thomas & Mary (Allen) Remington, then we might conclude that Peleg did not have a brother Matthew (?). Genealogists differ on this. However, a note within parentheses in the genealogy entitled "John Remington of Massachusetts" in the possession of the Roger Williams Family Association (from Mrs. Adair), says that Peleg "and his brother left home when their father married a second time." This is evidence that Peleg did have a brother. | Remington, Matthew (I05031)
| According to the Remington genealogy compiled by Lois Remington Smith, Daniel served in the Revolution in both MA & VT. The four children included in this family group are placed here by information from Pat Boyden, a Remington descendent. I have verified Heman, but not the other three. He is probably the Daniel Remington (looks like David but unclear) age 86 VT, a pauper, living at Starksboro, Addison Co., VT, with Benjamin & Nancy Johns in the 1850 Federal Census. | Remington, Daniel (I11304)
| According to the RI Cemetery Database, her birth year was c. 1722, and she died in 1744 in her 29th year. However, this would make her year of birth 1715. BSR has the date as 1715. Perhaps she was a daughter of Ases Remington, who may have married a Mr. Sale (?). If so, she was Benedict's first cousin once removed. | Unknown, Aase (I04079)
| According to the RI cemetery Database, Maria died of Bright's Disease. It would appear that her mother may have been over 50 when Maria was born. In any case, I am including the family data as recorded in the RI Cemetery Database. It may be that her mother's exact age was not known, although it must have been around 1793 - 1795. | Remington, Marie Theresa (I15488)
| According to the RI Cemetery Database, she was a daughter of Bassets & Nichols (?), and the cause of death was apoplexy. Her birth date is given as 23 Aug 1829. Cause of death is apoplexy. 680 | According to the US Army Register of Enlistments 1798-1914 (at Ancestry.com), Porter Shepard enlisted 24 March 1813 and 14 Feb 1814 at Hartford, CT. He was in the 25th MA Regiment. His service was 5 years. The record says he was born in West Springfield, Hampden, MA, is a farmer, 5' 2" tall, has gray eyes and light complexion. In the 1840 census, Porter Shepherd is living in Hartford, Trumbull Co., OH. According to the census data, Porter is age 40-49, his wife is 30-39, and there is one girl under age 5. I found his year of birth and death date online at a family tree. According to the tree, his parents were Simeon Thomson Shepard and Mary Lindley (or Lindsey), married 19 Nov 1795 at Westfield, Hampshire Co., MA. (source: https://mostlyangels.com/g0/p173.htm) | Shepard, Porter (I29093)

| Adelaide appears to be in the 1860 census twice: once with her parents at Fall River, and another place with two of her siblings at Taunton, MA. | Elsbree, Adelaide Isabel (I18677)
| Adeline is one of our links to our Mayflower Pilgrim ancestry, through her maternal grandmother. The 1850 Tiverton census shows Adeline Manchester as a 15-year-old living in the household of Edward and Elizabeth Wing, ages 78 and 73. There is also Isaac Manchester, age 11, her brother. Others living there are Joseph and Roby Rounds, 22 and 20; and John Keefe, 24, from Ireland. Roby was Adeline's and Isaac's older married sister. Another Tiverton home lists Emeline Manchester, 17; William Manchester, 23; and Lucy A., 7; living with six individuals of the surname Rounds. These other Manchesters were Adeline's siblings, and her mother, Mary, had remarried to Roderick Rounds. I have found the birth entries for all of them except Lucy. Adeline Remington is 24 in the 1860 Census at Warwick, and 45 in the 1880 Census at Coventry. Her death is entered in East Greenwich, Vol. 4, p. 76: "10 May 1893, Adlin T. Remington, age 58, birthplace Tiverton, parents Jeremiah & Mary Manchester, cause of death -- pneumonia." I visited the Greenwood Cemetery on 9 Feb 2002, and took some pictures of the gravestone, which is inscribed Adelin T. Manchester (elsewhere she is named as Adeline H. but that is incorrect). It is a very nice memorial stone, in the area over to the left as one enters the gates. I found Adeline's middle name in James N. Arnold's "Family Notes" Volume R, "Remington" at the Knight Memorial Library, Elmwood Ave., Providence (these papers are now at the Providence Public Library). It is also on son David's death record at Providence, but is misspelled as Krip. Her picture shows her with light brown hair, parted in the middle and pulled back, probably in a braid or chignon. Her eyes must have been brown or dark blue. Attired very properly and modestly in a dark-colored dress with a high collar and small bow at the neck, and buttons down the front, she appears somewhat tired, but calm and resolute. In her thin oval face and sloping eyebrows I can see a striking resemblance to my Great Uncle Fran, who was her grandson. (Note from cousin Judith Walton: "The picture was done by Morton Artistic Photographer of Westminster St. in Providence.") There is no way of knowing for sure, but I suppose the pictures could have been taken when they were about forty, perhaps even for their 25th anniversary, around 1877. I have been trying to determine whom Adeline was named after -- if anyone. There was an Adeline Manchester who married a Rufus Tripp; this Adeline was a daughter of Perry Manchester, who was a son of Peleg & Margaret. I have not found any Tripp ancestry for this branch of the family, although this is a possibility. John Dennis's ancestry has not yet been determined with certainly, although I have researched it to the extent that I am fairly satisfied with the available evidence. | MANCHESTER, Adeline Tripp (I00255)

| Adeline was a high school math teacher. A single lady all her life, she lived in Woonsocket, RI. | Randall, Adeline "Addie" Gertrude (I00401)

| After Austin's death, Elizabeth remained in Massachusetts, trying to make a living for herself and two young sons. In the fall of 1878 they joined a partly of 40 pioneers and moved to Nebraska, where they built a new homestead and her sons eventually married and raised families. (source: "A Remington Family History" by Lois Remington Smith) In the 1880 Federal Census, Elizabeth is a widow age 56, living in Indianola, Red Willow, NE, with her two single sons, George & Henry, who are farmers. Elizabeth died in 1907 at the home of her son Henry. | Stanford, Elizabeth "Libby" Elmira (I11343)

| After graduating from The Academy at Belleville, NY, Oscar taught school for one year. He then engaged in the mercantile business in Mannsville, NY, under the firm name of O. Sheffield & Co. He continued in this business for four years, during which time he also served as Village Postmaster. Around 1849 he switched careers and went into the business of sheep handling. When Oscar and his wife Adeline moved to Wisconsin, he became a farmer and also taught instrumental and vocal music for a number of years. In the 1880 Federal Census, Oscar & Adeline are living at Spring Prairie (District 234), Walworth Co., WI. They are near John & Martha Middleton, Oscar's sister and brother-in-law, and their mother Hannah (Smith) Sheffield who is living with the Middletons. A Hattie Sheffield age 17 is a servant in the household of Frank & Hattie Palmer and their baby girl Mabel. I am making an assumption that Hattie Sheffield is a daughter of Oscar & Adeline. County records confirm that they did have a daughter Harriet, known as Hattie. According to the Walworth County Historical Society, Oscar Smith Sheffield came to Troy, Walworth County, in 1856; his obituary says he came in 1855. The family moved to Spring Prairie in 1860, and to Elkhorn in 1884. It is also noted that he lived at Lafayette. Oscar was nearly 92 when he died. Even in his old age he was known to be an avid reader, and kept well informed on current events. (source: obituary in The Elkhorn Independent of Walworth County, Wisconsin) | Sheffield, Oscar Smith (I11637)

| After her mother Sarah (Sadie) died, I am told Mary was brought up by her grandmother Sarah (Sadie) Cheetham's sisters in New Bedford, MA. However, in the 1930 census she is age 9 and living at Bristol with her maternal grandmother, two aunts & one uncle, and two brothers. | Morgan, Mary G. (I00444)
| After his parents died, Almeron and his brother Lenardo may have gone to New York with their older half-brother, Jonathan and family. In the 1850 Federal Census, "Almerin" & Eliza are living at Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co., NY, with their young son Walter. In the same town are other Remington relatives, including Jonathan & Dinah, Noel & Nancy, and some of their children. | Remington, Almeron G. (I09619)
