| At the time of her marriage, Lydia was "of Bristol," so I have made an assumption that she was born there, and is the d/o Thomas & Mehitable Jolls; birth recorded as 1 Mar 1738/9 Br. (needs more research to confirm) | JOLLS, Lydia (I20638)

| At the time of her marriage, Lydia was of Providence. | Manchester, Lydia (I02825)

| At the time of her marriage, Martha was of Richmond. It identifies her father as William. Martha Hoxie is mentioned as a daughter in the will of her father. She is also named as a grandchild in her grandmother Joan's will. Receipt of Martha Wilcox & Robert Wilcox for legacy of grandmother Jane Potter paid by father William Potter, Admin., no date. Witnesses: William Test & Jasen Test Jr. (found online, probably Dartmouth, MA, records) I haven't yet been able to verify the date of death. A posting at genealogy.com has her marrying 2nd to Job Hoxsie (his 1st wife being Anna Rathbun). This posting also has her dob as 15 May 1736, which means she was age 13 at first marriage -- not likely. It says she is d/o William Potter and Mary Brownell. This appears to be accurate based on wills (see notes for her father and grandmother). I do question the date of birth, however. Her second marriage to Job may be true, as his first wife was indeed Anne or Anna, and his will of Sep 1788 names his wife as Martha. Job is found several times in the land records, along with his father Joseph. He named a daughter Deborah, after his mother. HOXSIE Job, of Richmond, and Anne Rathburn, of Exeter, at Richmond; m. by John Webster, Justice, March 25, 1749. HOXSIE Job, May 21, 1731, born Richmond, to Joseph & Deborah. The will of Job Hoxsie of Richmond, yeoman, is dtd 27 Sep 1788, proved 6 Oct 1788. It mentions wife Martha; sons Frederick, and Joseph under 21; and dtrs Deborah and Mary. | Potter, Martha (I26979)

| At the time of her marriage, Mary Eddy was of Warren, so I have made an assumption that she was born there. I also have made an assumption that she was d/o Joseph & Lydia (Jolls) Eddy. This needs more research to confirm. 1832 MUNRO, Mary, wife of Joseph, at Bristol, aged 63 years; American of Jan. 3, 1832, reported at Providence This is probably her gravestone in the RI Cemetery Database: MUNRO MARY 1764c - 27 DEC 1831 BR500 (Munro Family Cemetery, not located or checked) | EDDY, Mary (I16524)

| At the time of his marriage in 1821, David was "of Buffalo." BSR gives his date of death as 24 October 1834, in Rye, NY, but that date is an error. It happens to be the exact same date of death for a different David Remington who died in NY, and that other gravestone has been recorded and documented. (see elsewhere on this family tree) The death notice for Rev. Remington establishes that he died in January: the "Christian Intelligencer of the Reformed Dutch Church" of 1 February 1834: "Died Suddenly on Friday night last, Rev. David Remington, aged 38 years, Pastor of the Church at Rye, Westchester County. | Remington, Rev. David W. (I08213)

| At the time of his marriage in 1832, Stacy was "of Providence." Stacey W. Remington is in the Providence City Directory of 1836/37 as a cigar maker, 155 High St. Stacy W. Remington witnessed the Warwick will of Desire Burton, singlewoman, formerly of Cranston, on 1 Sept 1853. The two other witnesses were Joshua A. Johnson and Joseph G. Johnson. These were both brothers-in-law to Stacy. In 1850, 1860, & 1870 the family is living at Cranston, RI. In the 1850 Federal Census, Stacy's father-in-law, Freeborn Johnson, age 78, is living with them. Also in the household is Catherine B. Smith, age 18. In 1870, although the census was to be as of June 1st, the census was taken on July 11th, shortly after Joseph had gotten married on June 16th. The Hart family is living next door, and Joseph & Josephine are each shown in his/her own parents' home, although Josephine is called Josephine Remington. In the 1880 Federal Census, Stacy is aged 70, widowed, a retired farmer, living with grandson Frank A. Fry and family at 31 Broad St., Providence, RI. The identity of Stacy's parents, noted in his death record (although not in the RI Death Index), was provided by Linda Mathew, who has researched the Johnsons extensively. According to census data, both of Stacy's parents were born in Rhode Island, so apparently they or their parents migrated to New York State, where Stacy was born. Interestingly, in the 1880 Federal Census, Stacy is living on Broad St., not far from Benjamin W. Remington. However, Ben was born in RI. Is there a close family relationship between these two, or is it just coincidence? I was able to link him to our family tree through the marriage of his daughter Caroline, and more recently through his wife's family, the Johnsons. I am sure there are other links, also -- such as through the Burlingames. Stacy's will is dated 19 May 1884. His son-in-law Thomas H. Rhodes is named as Trustee of the estate. I have not been able to determine why he was named Stacy Waterman Remington, or if there is a family connection to Stacy Waterman born 22 Feb 1791. | Remington, Stacy Waterman (I14707)

| At the time of his marriage in 1889, Henry was age 25 and "of Scituate, RI." In the Federal Census of 1900, the family is at Providence Ward 7, RI: Henry C. 36 RI, Susie A. 32 Canada, Grace T. 9 RI, Susie A. 7 RI, and Cranston T. 5 RI. | Arnold, Henry Cranston (I21886)

| At the time of his marriage, Joseph was of Bristol. He was a private and seaman from RI in the Revolutionary War. (source: RI Gen. Regis. Vol. 19 p. 280) I have roughly estimated the birth years of some of Joseph & Mary's children. According to the death record at Bristol, Joseph, a Revolutionary Pensioner, died at age 89. (Deaths Vol. 4 p. 112) Joseph's will mentions the following family members: sons Nathan, Caleb, David, Bosworth H., & Joseph Jr.; daughters Abby Bunn w/o Lemuel Bunn, Christiana Handy, & Sally Munroe; and daughter-in-law Nancy Munroe. | MUNROE, Joseph (I16523)
|
| At the time of his marriage, Joseph was of Warren, so I have made an assumption that he was born there. I have also made an assumption that the Joseph Eddy, b 24 Feb 1729 at Warren to Joseph & Mary, is the same Joseph of Warren who married Lydia Jolls. The above assumptions are reasonable, but need further research to confirm. I am not sure if he was born in 1728/29 or 1729/30; consequently, I have opted for the 1729/30 date. | EDDY, Joseph Jr. (I03067)

| At the time of his marriage, Peleg was of Fall River. | Manchester, Peleg B. (I17172)

| At the time of his marriage, Robert was of Narragansett. Robert and his wife Sarah are found several times in the land records of South Kingstown. There was a different Robert Wilcox in Exeter; also a Robert & Sarah in the North Kingstown records -- could be same couple. | Wilcox, Robert (I26976)
|
| At the time of his marriage, Robert was of South Kingstown. The marriage record identifies him as son of Robert, deceased. The will of Robert Wilcox of Richmond is dated 3 June 1768, proved 4 July 1768. It mentions wife Martha; sons Robert & Sylvester; dtrs Sarah & Mary; Extr friend Stephen Hoxsie. Witnesses: Elisha Babcock (s/o Elizabeth), Mary Babcock, Anne Valet [Vallet] & John Webster. Inventory by Stephen Wilcox & David Potter. | Wilcox, Robert (I26978)

| At the time of his registration for the draft in 1917, Kenneth was a civil engineer employed by the City of Central Falls. It was noted that he was medium tall, of medium build, had light brown eyes and hair, and was flat-footed. In the Federal Census of 1930, Kenneth and Mildred Slocum, ages 36 & 35, are living in New Bedford, MA. They have two children, M. Elizabeth 9 and Kenneth Jr. 6 (all b RI). In 1940 they are living in East Providence, RI. Kenneth is a salesman at the petroleum works. | Slocum, Kenneth Matteson (I26570)
|
| At the time of the marriage of William & Sally in Pomfret CT, William was of Ashford, CT. In the Federal Census of 1840, William Kent and his wife are living at Ashford, CT. They are listed next to James Kent, who may be his father. Please note that I have placed William as a son of James and Ruby, but this has not been confirmed. There may also have been a brother to William named Cyril/Cyrel W. Kent, formerly of Ashford, who was married to Minerva Peck in Pomfret, CT, in 1839. In the Federal Census of 1850, the family is living at Cranston, RI: William R. Kent 37 RI laborer, Sally 31 CT, Ellen R. 7 CT, and Joseph W. 2 RI. They are living next to Benjamin N. & Eliza Remington and family. In 1860 the family is still at Cranston: Wm R. 48 CT jeweller, Sarah 42 CT, Ellen 17 RI, and Joseph 12 RI. In 1870, the family is at Providence, RI, 9th Ward: William R. Kent 58 RI laborer, Sarah P. 52 CT, and Joseph W. 22 RI clerk in office. In 1880, he appears to be W. R. Kent age 62 CT, living in Providence. | Kent, William R. (I25449)

| August may have been the first in the family to come to America. He was here for a period of three years when he was a young man. It was he who encouraged Nils Peter Nicolaisen to come over. However, he couldn't speak English very well, and had some difficulties with friends. He prayed about the situation. Then he had a dream in which he saw a girl by a farm, but he was warned not to contact the girl. When he was looking for work on a farm, he saw a scene that looked like his dream, so he avoided that farm. Eventually he did get to work on a farm here for a while, and learned to speak English a little better. Sometimes he wrote to Trine and her family. When he returned to Denmark, he courted Martinus's sister for a while; then he went to work on a farm where there was a mother and daughter. The daughter was Hansine, whom he fell in love with and married. The brothers Rasmus, August, and Soren frequently went to visit Trine's grandmother on Mols. The topic of conversation often turned to politics, which made the grandma very much afraid! I have roughly estimated the birth years of most of August's children. | Sorensen, August (I00817)
