    • During the Revolutionary War, John was taken from his home at night and brought to Newport, where he was in prison for about four months. His wife and children were driven from the family home, and the house was burned to the ground by the British.

      Known as Judge Allen, John served as both representative and senator in the RI General Assembly and was a Justice in the court system.

      He died as a result of an attack by a bull in his pasture.

      The will of John Allen of NK, Esq., is dated 12 June 1813, proved 9 Aug 1813. It mentions wife Martha, d/o Christopher Allen; sons Thomas Gould, Christopher, Ray Greene, and Samuel; dtrs Lucretia dec'd w/o Silas Allen, Lydia Carpenter, Mary Gould, Susanna, and Lucy Anne; children of dec'd daughter Lucretia: George, James, and Anne.

      In his Genealogy of the Allen Family, Daniel Gould Allen has John's date of birth as March 27 1747.
