  Notes from from "History of Providence County, RI," Richard M. Bayles, Ed., Vol. I; NY: W. W. Preston & Co., 1891; Ch. IV, p. 114f: "William C. Monroe, M.D., was born in Woonsocket in 1850. He was educated at Woonsocket High School, at the Friends' School of Providence, and at Bellevue Hospital Medical College in New York City, where he graduated in 1876. He began the practice of medicine in Woonsocket the same year. He was for a number of years connected with the school board, and is now a member of the hospital staff. He married Carrie M., daughter of William W. Remington, of Phenix, in 1876."
