    • George was a Captain in the 3rd Michigan Infantry during the Civil War (see Remington ancestry chart).

      In the 1860 Federal Census, George W. & Cecelia Remington are living at Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. They have two young children. Also, George's mother, Esther Remington, age 60, is living with them.

      In the 1870 Federal Census, George W. Remington is still living at Grand Rapids. However, he now has a second wife, Statira, and two more young children. His mother Esther is still with them, with her age given as 65.

      by 1880 George has passed away but his family is still at Grand Rapids. (see notes for his second wife)
