Notes - Joseph W. Remington is mentioned as a seventeen-year-old son in 1820 when Anthony Remington listed his children. In 1854 Joseph W. was one of Anthony's surviving children, and at that time was of Portage Co., OH.
In the 1850 Federal Census, Joseph W. Remington is living in Freedom, Portage Co., OH. He is a carpenter, age 46. His wife Elizabeth is 58; they have two daughters: Samantha 24 and Cornelia E. 7. I am wondering if Cornelia is really their biological daughter; I think she may be Samantha's (see notes below for 1860 census).
In the 1860 Federal Census, Joseph W. & Elizabeth Remington are living at Richmond, Ashtabula Co., OH. They are ages 57 & 64, both b MA. They are living with Nathan & Samantha Hall, ages 33 & 34, and their daughter Elizabeth, 16. Samantha was born in MA. I think Elizabeth age 16 is Cornelia E. in the 1850 census.
