Notes - According to notes in the Special Collections at NE Hist & Gen Soc, Dan Remington and his family went to Rush, Monroe Co., NY, in 1804 from Suffield, CT. At that time there was a colony formed consisting of families from CT, including Goff, Brainerd, Tupper, and others.
History of Niagara County, NY, pub 1878, p. 293, states that Dan Remington came to the home of his brother-in-law Charles Goff in Niagara Township in 1825. Later he removed to Michigan, settling in Macomb County, probably in 1836. (noted in same source as above)
This manuscript at NE Hist & Gen Soc has Dan's birth year as 1774; and says that he and Hannah had fourteen children, four of whom died young; however, only 9 are listed in the file; the list includes an Abner, a Justin, and a Jesse. However, I am not sure about the accuracy of these names in this family.
In the 1850 Federal Census, "Dan" Remington b CT is age 75, a farmer, living with his son Norman and family at Ray, Macomb Co., MI.
In 1860 Dan Remington is age 85 MA, a shoemaker, living with his son Joseph in Shelby, Macomb Co., MI.
I have not found him listed in the 1870 census.
According to the History of Macomb County, MI (Google Books), Daniel died at age 96, "from the effects of an injury in a sawmill from a flying slab."
