Notes - "Dr. Smith, a physician, received his early education in Madison, FL. When it was demonstrated he was an exceptional student he was sent to the Bingham School in North Carolina, the University of Florida (I understand he was a founding member of the ATO fraternity there but I have not seen evidence of that), Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and post-graduate medical education in Berlin, Germany, and Vienna, Austria. He returned to Madison, FL, to practice medicine. He married Marie Vann Dial on November 21, 1895. Marie and Chandler had eight children who survived one of whom was Rosa Alexandria Smith, my mother. Dr. Smith died August 17, 1918. He was the city of Madison's first automobile fatality. Suffering from chronic hearing loss he did not hear or see the car driven by a young and inexperienced female who hit him as he attempted to walk across the street." (notes from Chandler Smith Cheek)
In the Federal Census of 1910, the family is living at Madison, FL.
They had three children that died young: Susan, Marie, and Julia. See findagrave.com
