- Joseph G. Johnson witnessed the Warwick will of Desire Burton, singlewoman, formerly of Cranston, dated 1 Sep 1853. The two other witnesses were Joshua A. Johnson & Stacy W. Remington.
In the Federal Census of 1850, the family is living at Cranston: Josehp G. 34 Town Clerk, Mary A. 36, Charles E. 13, Martha A. 10, Sarah E. 8, Mary E. 5, Harriet 3, and Joseph G. 1. Also in the household are Thomas Burgess 50 and Allen J. Tibbetts 27.
In 1860 the family is still at Cranston: Joseph G. 44, Mary A. 46, Mary E. 16, Joseph G. 11, Allen T. 8 (possibly named after Allen Tibbetts listed in 1850), Harriet 6 (probably the older Harriet had died); and Rachel Stevens 90. It is interesting to note that Charles Remington's brother Daniel married an Alice Stevens -- is there a connection?
In 1870 they are at Providence: Joseph G. Johnston 54 real estate broker, Mary A. 56, Joseph G. Jr. 21, Allen T. 18; and Barbary Scott 75.
In 1880 they are back in Cranston. It appears that son Allen T. is married and his wife and young daughter are in the household; also married daughter Mary E. Donaldson and her husband Wm. Married son Charles E. appears to be next door with his family.
