Notes - From "Representative Men and Old Families of Southeastern Massachusetts" p. 1647 (Google Books): In 1717 Joseph was assessor of taxes in Freetown, and in 1721 on the Grand Jury. The first schoolhouse in Fall River was on land given by Joseph Brightman. Slade's Ferry was operated by the Slades and Brightmans.
His will is dated 18 Dec 1751 at Freetown; mentions "dearly beloved wife" Susanna; daughters Mary, Elizabeth, and Susanna; son James, and sons Joseph and George as executors.
