1464 During the Revolutionary War, John was taken from his home at night and brought to Newport, where he was in prison for about four months. His wife and children were driven from the family home, and the house was burned to the ground by the British.

Known as Judge Allen, John served as both representative and senator in the RI General Assembly and was a Justice in the court system.

He died as a result of an attack by a bull in his pasture.

In 1880 Eben & Sarah are at Fenton, Genesee Co., MI, with their two sons, Frank 20 & Arch C. 10. (Who is Frank Remington, age 20, son? Could he have been from an earlier marriage?) Also in the home are in-laws Moses & Catharine Smith.

In the Federal Census of 1 June 1900, Eben & Sarah C. Remington, ages 63 & 58, are still living at Fenton, Genesee Co., MI. Their son Archie, 27, is still with them. They are living on Poplar Street.

His obituary in The Fenton Independent:
"Ebin Remington died at his home on Poplar Street . . . He was born in Fenton 17 June 1837 and lived here his entire life. Surviving: wife; 1 son, Archie Remington; a brother, J. B. Remington; and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Traver. Mr. Remington was widely known as a horse trainer and breeder of fancy dogs. He was the pioneer in the cement business in Fenton, discovering the marl deposits and realizing their worth several years ago. He was unable to interest capital, however, and so did nothing with what has developed into an industry of immense proportion. He was a soldier in the war of the rebellion and spent three years in a rebel prison, but finally succeeded in escaping and returned to Fenton."

1486 Edward Carr's will of 22 Dec 1711 mentions his daughter, Hannah Slocum. I am making an educated guess that her husband was Samuel, who had a wife named Hannah. They were both from Jamestown, in the right time frame. Other online genealogies agree with this conclusion. Carr, Hannah (I02191)

1490 Edward is not mentioned in his father's will. His name is found in several genealogies, but I have not yet located "official" documentation (I need to research this family more). Edward was likely named after his mother's father, Edward Carr. Slocum, Edward (I02192)

1491 Edward is often considered to be the most successful of medieval monarchs. He is known as Edward Longshanks; also Hammer of the Scots.

He fathered sixteen children by his first wife and three by the second.

From Wikipedia:

"Uncommon for such marriages of the period, the couple loved each other. Moreover like his father, Edward was very devoted to his queen and was faithful to her throughout their married lives -- a rarity among monarchs of the time. He was deeply affected by her death. He displayed his grief by erecting twelve so-called Eleanor crosses, one at each place where her funeral cort

1493 Edward Thurston was a Quaker at Newport, RI, prior to 1647. He was a freeman at Newport in 1655. On 26 August 1688, Edward was one of a number of Quakers who signed a request addressed to the King asking to be excused from bearing arms because they were peaceable people, but promising to fulfill all other obligations of taxes and duties. In 1690 he was one of five signers of a letter to King William & Queen Mary, congratulating them on their accession to the Crown.

I have very roughly estimated the birth years of some of Edward's children.
THURSTON, Edward (I05330)

1494 Edward W. is listed in the 1850 Federal Census as age 6 months. Therefore, even though the published birth records show him to be born in 1850, he must have been born in 1849. The only other possibility is that there was an infant who died, and a second son was given the same name.

New Bedford VRs show his dob as 20 Dec 1849.
