In 1880 Warren is age 35 and living at Waldboro, Lincoln Co., ME, with his parents Solomon & Jane A. Achorn. Opal, identified as granddaughter age 12, is also in the household. Warren is married to Laura A., age 30, and they have a son Jasper M., age 3. It is unclear whether Laura A. might be the same as Arleen in the previous census, but the age gap between Opal and Jasper suggest that Laura may be a second wife for Warren. Also in the home is Ida B. Robinson, identified as "daughter." However, she is either Laura's sister or daughter (see notes for Laura's father, Frank Robinson). In this census, three other Achorn families are nearby: John, Jacob, & Lowell. See also the notes for Warren's father, Solomon. | Achorn, Warren (I18466)

| In the 1870 Federal Census, William & Caroline are living at Scriba, Oswego Co., NY, with three children (Alley -- a boy, Jessie -- a girl, & Frederick) and also William's father, Hial. In 1900, William M. and Carrie A. Hall, ages 64 NY and 67 CT, are living in the town of Oswego, NY. They have been married 40 yrs. Obituary from findagrave.com The soul of William Mortimer Hall, for many years a respectable resident of Oswego, passed to the home of his Maker at the home of his son, Major A.M. Hall, Washington, DC, on Thursday night. Funeral services were held at Washington, DC Saturday afternoon. The body arrived here at noon yesterday and burial was made at Riverside cemetery in the afternoon after services in the Page Memorial chapel conducted by the Rev. W.F. Kettle. The funeral party consisted of Major and Mrs. A. M. Hall and Albert G. Hall, grandson of the deceased, of Washington, Jessie C. Hall, of New York City, Mrs. Lizzie Peck of Syracuse, Mrs. Josie Crittenden, Mrs. Lizzie Parkhurst, Oliver Ormsby and Max Saurez, all of Syracuse. Mr. Hall was 80 years old. He was born in Lorraine, Jefferson county in 1833 and moved to Oswego with his parents when quite a young lad. He made this city his home until about 11 years ago when, after the death of wife, he went to live with his son. About that time he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. He partially recovered and was quite active up to last Christmas day, when the second stroke came, which carried him away. Mr. Hall has always led an active life and following the Civil War was identified with a number of prominent business enterprises in this city. He was largely interested in canal transportation and at one time conducted a fleet of ten lioata. Later he took up milling and farming, but a panic in the early seventies swept away his property. He struggled courageously against reverse and for a number of years conducted the Davis livery barn and later a dairy farm in Oswego Town. He was a man of sterling worth, beloved by all who knew him. He was greatly devoted to his family, not a member of which can recall a single unkind word that ever fell from his lips. He was an active attendant at church up to the Sunday before his death. On January 18, 1860, he was joined in wedlock to Caroline Adams, a teacher in the Oswego public schools, at the home of Zina D Stevens. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. II. G. Ludlow, the first pastor of the Congregational church. They had three children, all of whom are living, Major A. M. Hall of Washington, Jessie C. Hall and DeLeon F. Hall, of New York. The latter was unable to attend the funeral because of a severe illness which confines him to his home. The death of Mr. Hall breaks a chain of four generations in the Washington home, where he was very happy surrounded by his children, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The affection of the latter for the old man was a subject of common remark in the neighborhood where he lived. He was their constant companion and playmate and guardian. | Hall, William Mortimer (I11583)
| In the 1870 Federal Census, William and his family are living in Canton, St. Lawrence Co., NY, the same town where his older brother Seth P. Remington is living. William and his wife and two children are still there in 1880 and in 1900. | Remington, William Reese (I13071)

| In the 1870 Federal Census, William G. Fish, 42 RI, and his wife Rhoda A., 39 MA, are living at New Bedford, MA. His occupation is given as "Restaurant." they are next to Nathaniel 48 & Ruth 49 Manchester. In 1880 William G. Fish is 53 and Rhoda A. is 44, but their ages are reversed in the census; in fact, the census taker wrote Rhoda's name above William's, and crossed out "wife" next to his. They are still at New Bedford, where William's occupation is "fruit store." They are next to Lewis G. (69?) & Sarah Manchester. | Fish, William G. (I19044)
| In the 1870 Federal Census, William H. & Maria Manchester are living at Tiverton, RI. They have two sons: George S., 6, and Charles F., 4. In 1880 the family is still at Tiverton. They have five children. In addition, another young man named Arthur Manchester, age 21, is with them (the relationship says son, but I don't think so unless the age is 2 instead of 21); also, a brother-in-law, Philip Basset, and his wife Sarah. They are living next to Holder Dennis and family. In 1900 the family is at Tiverton as follows: Wm H Manchester 73 RI, Margaret 56 MA, George S. 38 RI fisherman, Elsie J. 11 RI gr-dtr, John H. Taylor 38 MA nephew, and Bradford C. Rounds 48 RI fisherman, lodger (likely William's step-brother). The death record identifies his parents as Jeremiah Manchester and Mary Dennis. | Manchester, William Henry (I00914)
| In the 1870 Fedreral Census, Isaac A. & Adelia Manchester are living at Tiverton, RI. They have two children: Lizzie 5, and Jeremiah 2. In 1880 they are still at Tiverton. The household includes Isaac A. 42, Delia S. 39, Lizzie E. 15, and Mary 8. The 1900 Federal Census gives their birth dates as June 1839 and Feb 1843; I think both of them are off a bit. For Isaac's marriage and death, see Tiverton vital records: Marriages 1-49 & Deaths 1-21A. The death record identifies his parents as Jeremiah A. Manchester and Mary Dennis. Isaac & Delia's gravestone has been photographed. | Manchester, Isaac Allen (I00344)

| In the 1871 British Census, William & Susan, ages 31 & 27, are living at Hucknall Huthwaite. They have two children: Emma 3, and John William 1. The 1881 British Census shows his birthplace as Sutton-in-Ashfield. At the time of the 1881 census, they are living in Selston. William & Susan have six children listed in this census. William's occupation in 1881 is a "General Dealer." | Coleman, William (I06518)
| In the 1871 census, Gilbert is age 19, living at home with his parents, 34 Bancroft Lane, Mansfield. In 1881 he is age 29, still living with his parents, John & Mary Slack, at 34 Botany Lane ( Bancroft?), Mansfield. I think he is probably the one still single and age 38 in the 1891 census, lodging at 43 Bancroft Lane. This is confirmed by the 1901 census, in which Gilbert Slack, age 49 and unmarried, is living with his brother Willie and family. In all the censuses he is a labourer. | Slack, Gilbert (I16861)
| In the 1871 census, he is probably the Gilbert Slack age 21 b. Mansfield, who is in the 7th dragoons at Walmer, Kent, England. He may also be the Gilbert Slack age 29 b. Mansfield who is lodging at Radford in 1881; occupation frame work knitter. In the 1891 census this family is living at 23 Rookery, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Gilbert & Hannah have four children. He is a hosiery factory hand. In 1901 they are at 17 Mount Pleasant, and have three more children. Gilbert is a self-employed window cleaner. (Ancestry has the family incorrectly indexed under the name Stack.) The two sons John & Gilbert may very will be the two by those names who arrived in America (Ellis Island) on 17 Apr 1907 on the ship Oceanic from Liverpool. They were from Mansfield; John was 24 and Gilbert was 22. I haven't been able to locate either of them in any US census. | Slack, Gilbert (I16902)

They are living at 1 Caxton Terrace, Mansfield. With them are Ethel Bostock, age 16, niece born Notts; and Florrie Coleman, age 16, born Mansfield, Notts. Both Ethel & Florrie are shop assistants. Florrie is my great-aunt, sister of my Grandma Berry (nee Ellen Coleman). | Slack, John (I16923)

| In the 1875 NY State Census she appears to be Elsa L. Remington age 1 y 9 mos (unclear writing), in Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY, with her parents Zeno H. and Martha Remington, and Martha's parents and siblings. In the 1900 Federal Census, Florence E. "Bodell" 28 (Aug 1871) is a widow living in Auburn with daughter Florence L. 2 (Aug 1897). See notes for daughter Florence. In 1910 she is Florence Boyd, married to John A Boyd, with daughter Florence L. Bedell age 12, living in Auburn. In 1920 they are living in Cleveland, OH. In 1940 John A. and Florence L. Boyd are in Philadelphia, PA. In her mother's obituary of September 1910, Luella is mentioned as daughter Mrs. John Boyd of Auburn. | Remington, Florence Luella (I29434)

They are living on Colwell St., near Plane. In 1880, Leon & Eliza Allison are living in District 48 in Providence. Clara Allison, age 32, is in the household. Probably she is Leon's daughter from his previous marriage. In 1900, Eliza Alison is widowed and living on Swan St. in Providence with her son John H. Berry and his third wife, Laura. In the 1910 Federal Census, Eliza A. Allison is age 77, living at 10 Bowditch Place, Providence, RI, with her son John, his wife Nellie, and their two young daughters, Helen & Loretta. According to the death record, Eliza Allison died at age 81 (OS Page 24:225). See notes for Ephraim Elsbree, Sr., for alternate spellings of the surname. | ELSBREE, Eliza Ann (I00050)

| In the 1880 census the family is at Shelter Island, Suffolk, New York. there are five children in the family. Also there is Thomas Donahue, borther-in-law. I have made an assumption that this is the family of Mary W. Peden who is the mother of Lawrence Austin Records. The 1900 census says both her parents were born in Ireland, and this agrees. The middle initial of W also agrees. | Peden, Thomas (I28423)
| In the 1880 census, George Remington 24 and John Remington 22 are together at Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY. He may be George H. Remington who married Theresa Ashley and died 17 Jul 1930 in Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY. The age and location are right. His grave is in Lakeview Cemetery, Fleming, Cayuga co., NY. This individual needs more research. | Remington, George (I29397)
| In the 1880 census, George Remington 24 and John Remington 22 are together at Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY. They are boarding with Martha Willman 19 MA and she is the one John married soon after. In 1900 this family is in Providence, RI: John ? Remington 39 NY (Feb 1861), Martha 38 MA (June 1861), and Fred T. 18 NY (May 1882). In the 1920 census, this couple is in Warwick, RI: John B. In the Federal Censuses of 1920 and 1930, Sarah Paine is a widow ages 59 and 72, living at Red Bank, Monmouth Co., NJ, with her daughter Georgie B. Hazard, ages 35 and 45, a teacher in a private school. In 1920 the census says Georgie is divorced; in 1930 it says widow. Notes from Donald Dewey, 15 Nov 2009: "Colonel George Sanford Burton was a surgeon in the Third Rhode Island Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. He lived in East Greenwich, Rhode Island in a family house at the corner of Post Road and Bay View Avenue. His only surviving daughter Georgie Burton Hazard was born in 1884, the year he died. She had no children. The Colonel's widow Sarah P. Remington Burton remarried a George Paine. Georgie Burton adored her father and detested Paine and resented her mother from then after. "Georgie Sanford Burton went to East Greenwich Academy in East Greenwich and married the brother of my grandmother Bowdoin Frothingham Hazard of Shrewsbury, NJ. Georgie B. Hazard divorced Bowdoin in 1912 and went on to found a highly regarded school at 59 East Front Street in Red Bank, NJ, which was called Burton Hall. She operated the school until she had a stroke in 1963. She died at our house in Virginia in 1965 and is buried with her father in Warwick, R.I. "Several of my mother's siblings and both my older sister and brother went to her school. I heard all the stories about Colonel Burton and have his saber and other items such as his marriage certificate that "Aunt Georgie" kept of her father's. She closed the school in the summer and lived up until her stroke in her father's house. Burton Hall had no grade levels - you graduated when she said you graduated - most of her pupils were accepted to Ivy League colleges and universities. The older pupils taught the younger pupils. Everyone learned Greek and Latin. "Colonel Burton was married twice. A Daniel Hazard who lives in California is the descendent of Burton's first marriage." | Remington, Sarah P. (I10309)
