| The book "History of Worcester Co., MA" p 98 says Lurenda, a d/o Jeremiah & mMary, was born in 1835; but that would make her mother about 58 when Lurenda was born. She may have been born earlier (1825?), or may have been someone else's daughter (?). | Remington, Lurenda (I24276)

| The book "Little Compton Families" by B. F. Wilbour p. 410 says that this John Manchester married first Nancy, then Lucy. I have not been able to verify this with certainty, as there were several John Manchesters in Tiverton around this time. However, for the present I have attached Nancy and Lucy as his two wives. A query posted on the Manchester mailing list at rootsweb.com gives John & Lucy's marriage date as 18 March 1804, Tiverton, no source noted. It appears that this John Manchester may very well be our ancestor, based on the opinion of genealogist John Redfern (contact information available on request). See also the notes for son Jeremiah A. Manchester, and notes for the other John Manchesters on this tree. | MANCHESTER, John (I01789)
| The book "Little Compton Families" by Benjamin Franklin Wilbour gives Mary's surname as Wordell. According to the book "Charts and Chronicles of Matthew Grenelle's Descendants," p. 13, Mary Wodell was a descendant of no less than 10 of the barons who forced King John to accept the Magna Carta in 1215. Their names were: Roger & Hugh Bigood, Richard & Gilbert deClare, John FitzRobert, Robert FitzWalter, John de Lacie, William Mallet, Saire de Quincey, and Robert de Vere. (See source: John Wurt's "Magna Charta.") This information, however, may be suspect. | WODELL, Mary (I05210)

| The book "The Hull Family in America" p. 262 says Mary was born 11 July 1685. | Hull, Mary (I11025)
| The book entitled "The Coggeshalls in America" says Jane was "of Portsmouth." | Birrell, Jane (I03504)
| The book entitled "The Coggshalls in America" says John was "of Newport," but does not identify his parents, probably because this information is unknown. Was he related to the other John Coggeshall who signed the Portsmouth Compact in 1639? It seems likely. | Coggeshall, John (I03503)
| The Boston records say he was born 17th day 2nd month, but the baptism record was for the 16th day of the 2nd month, at which time he was about 7 days old. He married first to Elizabeth Lidgett. At least one genealogy has her as the mother of John, Jr. b 1695. However, other genealogies say John Jr. was a son of Elizabeth (Allen) Usher. See notes for John (Jr.). John Usher followed in the footsteps of his father, being involved in selling and publishing books. He became a freeman of Boston 7 May 1673. John Usher was Lt. Governor of New Hampshire. | USHER, John (I21327)
| The Boyd Scott Remington genealogy chart at RIHSL has her birth date as 28 Jan 1709. Martha A. Benns's "Remington Family" book has Mercy married to the other Stephen Remington born in 1696. However, the preponderance of evidence indicates that is most likely incorrect. Mercy (or Marcy/Mary) is mentioned as Mary Remington in the will of her sister Lydia (Sheldon) Arnold dated 3 August 1774. Notes from the Mary E. Rice Collection, concerning Cranston land evidence: on 18 March 1784, Stephen Remington sold one lot of land in Pawtuxet to Rhodes Greene; "Marcy Remington, wife of the above-said Stephen," surrenders her dower right. On 10 Feb 1785, Stephen Remington sold land to Capt Josiah Haines. This document was signed by Stephen & Marcy Remington. (Cranston bk 4, p10) About her name: the name Marcy was the common pronunciation for Mercy in those days, and as such is a phonetic spelling of the name, and thus has evolved into a given variation of the name. Mary was also used frequently as an alternative for both Mercy and Marcy, possibly as a nickname or as a result of transcription errors. She died at age 93 years, 5 months, and 27 days. I believe the following death notice may be for her, in the Columbian Centinel of 4 Dec 1802: "Remington, Mrs., d. in Pawtuxet, aged 91." From the RI Cemetery Database: REMINGTON, MARCY 1709c - 24 NOV 1802, WK003 | Sheldon, Mercy Mary (I02937)

| The children of Clarence & Mary grew up at 113 Greenville Ave., Johnston, RI. In the Federal Census of 1930, the family is living there. In the Federal Census of 1910, Clarence & Mary are living in Johnston, RI. They appear to be newlyweds living with her parents, Albert & Emma Remington. | Howard, Clarence J. (I06346)

| The children of Levi & Almeda are as follows: Lilly O. 1888, William S. 1890, May Z. 1892, Ray C. 1894, Lodia V. 1896, Walter Lee c1896, Marie c1901, Lennard c1905, & Maxine c1917 (source: Remington Family History Report from Ann Bowler, some data from Phyllis Jean Tandy Barnhill). In the 1900 Federal Census, Wesley L. & Almeda E., ages 37 & 32, are living at Loup, Buffalo Co., NE. Children listed are: Lilly O. 11, William S. 10, May Z. 8 (possibly Maisie?), Ray C. 6, & Lodia V. 4. In the 1910 Federal Census, the family is living at Riverdale, Buffalo Co., NE: L. W. 46, Almeda 40, Lillian 21, May 18, Ray 16, Loda 14, Maree 9, & Lenard 6 (parents both born IA, children all born NE). In the 1920 Federal Census, the family is still at Riverdale. Children still in the household are: Ray C. 25, Marie 19, Lennard 15, & Maxine 2 11/12. | Lewis, Levi Wesley (I22011)

| The church record gives her maiden name as "Tatersole." | Family F00619
| The church records say he died 30 Sept 1814, but the year seems to be one off. He and his wife, Avis, and his brother Rouse (Rowse) were all baptized on the same day. Six of these children appear in the North Kingstown records as "of Gideon and (?)," years of birth unreadable. I am assuming they are children of this couple, although that may not be correct. Sylvester is not listed, so I don't think he is a biological child of this couple, although one genealogy puts him in this family group. Perhaps he was orphaned young and raised by this couple (needs more research). | Northup, Gideon (I09435)
| The Clarke family Bible transcript has his middle initial as K, as does the Remington/Whitford Bible. However, the marriage entry has it as H. It may have been Kenyon, named after his father. | Church, Nelson K. (I02126)

| The Congregational Church in Putney, VT: MR. JAIRUS REMINGTON, he was ordained, Feb 19, 1800 and dismissed, Feb. 15, 1803. Two were added to the church under his ministry. (The above from: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vtwindha/vhg5/putney.htm#_Toc92296976) The following notes are adapted from the St. Lawrence County Historical Association Quarterly, Vol. 5, No. 2, April 1960, Canton, NY, available through PERSI: Rev. Jairus Remington was pastor of the Presbyterian church at Templeton and also Poultney (or Putney?), VT. He moved to Heuvelton, NY, in Nov 1806. His only daughter Eliza, then 8 years old, rode on horseback for the entire journey. There were then three houses, all built of logs, where the village of Heuvelton now stands, and one of them being vacant, Rev. Remington moved into it. In place of glass in the windows, oiled paper was used the first winter of his occupancy. Meat was obtained form the Indians who were friendly and numerous. Mr. Remington took up three thousand acres of land, running one mile on the river, including all water privileges . . . As soon as lumber could be sawed he built a large house on the site . . . This house was used by the travelling public and was called a tavern and it also became a boarding house for the twenty men or more who were engaged in clearing the land. To this house some of the wounded at the Battle of Ogdensburg (War of 1812) were brought . . . Mr. Remington soon had a large number of acres cleared and began the raising of horses and cattle, and so prosperous had he become that he soon had all this large tract of land paid for except the last payment of a few hundred dollars . . . The contract expired with only this small amount of payment overdue . . . About that time a Mr. Van den Heuvel came from Holland and bought a large tract of land that included the acreage owned by Mr. Remington. In giving the deed to Mr. Van den Heuvel, Judge Ford acknowledged the "equitable claim of Jairus Remington." Mr. Remington entered the matter in court, but soon after this he died and the matter was never resolved. After the death of Jarius, his wife moved into a house on DeKalb Rd. Not long after this, her only son Hiram died, and then she removed to Wrentham, MA, which had likely been her former home. There she remarried to David Fisher, a banker, with whom she lived eight years. Mrs. Fisher died at age 87, about 1857, in Massachusetts. Her maiden name was Lois Shepard, daughter of Benjamin Shepard of Wrentham, MA. Mr. Shepard owned the first cotton factory in America and he was also a commissary under General Washington, supplying him with provisions for the army. My notes: Heuvelton, NY, is on NY State route 812 in St. Lawrence County, and is just southeast of Ogdensburg. The river by Jarius Remington's land may have been the Oswegatchie River or another nearby tributary of the St. Lawrence River. | Remington, Rev. Jairus (I07886)

| The DAR file has her name as Sarah Gould. | Cannon, Sarah Gould (I16285)
| The DAR lineage book has John's wife as Harriet Paine. In the 1830 census, Sarah Remington is listed as a head of houshold in Johnston, next to brother-in-law Caleb Remington Jr. Her household is as follows: 1 male 10-15 (John P.), 1 male 20-30 (Caleb B. or William W.), 1 female 10-15 (Waity), and 1 female 50-60 (Sarah). One son may be living with her brother-in-law Caleb; see notes for him. | Paine, Sarah "Sally" (I08873)

| The dates of Martha's two marriages do not seem to jive. Was she a lot younger than Matthew? If she remarried to Henry Olin, which one, Sr. or Jr.? If her daughter Abigail, by Matthew, married Anthony Olin son of Henry Jr., it seems that Abigail could not have been born much before 1770 or so. Is there a generation missing here, possibly a Matthew Remington Jr.? Or, perhaps Matthew had an earlier wife who died, and he remarried to a younger woman, who was Martha? I have put together all the data -- including marriage records and Henry's will -- into what I believe is the most likely scenario, given the information I have. If Martha Randall Remington married this Henry, and is indeed the Martha mentioned in his will, she could not have been the mother of his children, because some of them were already married with children at the time of his will; therefore she was probably his second wife. The codicil to his will makes it clear that there was another wife named Sarah; this also agrees with the marriage records. | Randall, Martha (I02916)

| The dates on the Kent monument for Hannah Maria are: 27 July 1851 - 17 February 1852. | Kent, Hannah Maria (I12821)
| The daughter Mary in the 1870 Federal Census is age 19. Perhaps their first daughter Mary died young and another one was born in 1851 (?). Otherwise, there is an age discrepancy of about two years. | Remington, Mary Helen (I14087)
| The death entry at Warwick City Hall says he died of consumption. | Remington, Charles Henry (I04164)
| The death entry says he died at age 9 months, 20 days, of water on the brain. | Remington, George Edward (I00356)
| The death notice for his sister Sarah has the middle name as "Kingsburg." They may have had the same middle name. In the 1870 Federal Census, Cyrus & "Ellen" are living at Buffalo, Erie Co., NY, with their three children. Cyrus was a member of the Oswego County, NY, Historical Society, founded in 1896: Cyrus Kingsbury Remington, Buffalo, N.Y., membership Nov. 24, 1896, No.22, Historian Pennsylvania Society of War of 1812. Cyrus died at age 69 y 1 m 1 d. Cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage. | Remington, Cyrus Kingsbury (I08223)

| The death record at New Bedford says she died on the 11th but the date of record is the 9th, so I am assuming that is a clerical error. She probably died on the 8th or 9th. Her age at death was 69 y 5 m. She died of paralysis. Residence was 84 Shawmut. Birthplace: Tiverton; parents identified as John & Roby, born Tiverton/Westport. | Dennis, Ruth (I26365)
